hi

i am moving into my own place soon and i have always hated the sound especially in newer tvs

i want a system preferably 2 speakers, because i dont want to run all the wires for 5 speakers.
i have looked at soundbars but are they any good?

not looking for anything spectacular, but want games and movies to sound much better than the built in tv speakers.

my budget is £200, could prob stretch to £250 if need be..

not only will i be connecting tv to it (possibly PS4) i would like to play music from PC to it as well

Im in the same situation at the minute. Ive been looking at the Q Acoustics Q-BT3. You can get the retro red pair or white for £209 and with blutooth APTX. or the new pair for £349 the only difference is the build quality of finish and the higher price tag also come in black

Either a soundbar, or a decent pair of active speakers, such as Microlab or Edifier. Both make very good speakers that don't cost a great deal really.

Soundbar's don't really get good until you get to around £200, but if you require something smaller and more elegant, then a soundbar will be the better choice. If looks and placement is not an issue, I'd go for active stereo speakers personally. You'll spend less on a decent pair of active speakers than you will a decent soundbar.

looking at active speakers, i think that might be the way to go.. they look better.
would prefer them to have Bluetooth which will drive price up a bit, but ill have a look around.
do not want to spend more than £250 if i can help it

These Addon T8 have Bluetooth connectivity and are on sale this week for £192. They do get some good reviews, but I have seen a couple of comments from people who had Bluetooth connection issues.

Other options are Wharfedale DS1 for £130 or Q Acoustics BT3 for £210.

I picked up a matching soundbase for my Panasonic TV. Simple to use, wife friendly, links to the TV volume & power so no extra remote.

Sure there are better sounding systems, but for a decent improvement over standard TV and ease of use, I can't fault it.

are there any decent floorstanding active speakers in my price bracket?

You can get some decent passive floorstanding speakers for £250, but active ones are much less common than bookshelf/standmount active speakers. I'd imagine decent active floorstanding speakers would easily cost over £1k.

I run optical into a Denon DM-39 and then into Dali Zensor 1 speakers; this works very well. Richer SOunds has this package at £299 at the moment, but they have similar DM-39 packages within your range.

was looking at the denon DM-39 looks a nice little system
does it have DAB? because i see the DM-40 as DAB in title and but the description of the DM-39 does say it as DAB but just querying it.

i listen to a lot of radio (Football, Rugby etc) more than watch TV, so the better the radio quality the better

Decided i will get the Denon DM39 but spend the extra and get some nice floorstanding speakers
Can anybody recommend any for under £300
Will only be used for low volume music/sport from dab radio or itunes music
But also to be used to connect ps4/tv to so they speakers must be ok for speech etc

Is there anything in particular i should be looking for spec wise and also what type of speaker cable i should use?
I dont suppose wilkos speaker wire at 50p a metre will do a job haha

Well could i get an amp (which one) to connect my devices to and then use floorstanding speakers?
I know absolutely nothing of this type of stuff lol

I use the radio a lot for sport (local radio, 5 live, talksport) because i refuse to pay to watch it and not keen on dodgy/poor quality streams
So thought a stereo would be better, but would prefer the look of floorstanding speakers can put them either side of my tv unit

The DM-39 is an amp and the marantz melody but there only small if your getting floor standers then you need a bigger amp to power them something along the lines of a yamaha
