something is blocking me at boot up

Hi all

Here is a problem that has started this week

I boot up w7 ultimate, it goes to desktop as normal and then it takes about 10 minutes before i can access internet, MSN or email....email gets to 66% recieve then freezes...anyone know what is happening here...i can not access anything to see whats going on....if i try to close a prog it says not responding....start3ed doing this the other day ....and does it everytime i boot now....only thing i noticed was when it started i had a message on screen saying AVG free had installed an update...i thought it was that so i uninstalled it...but it still does it

Try doing a system restore to before the problem started

I cant...am running an ssd and system restore is disabled

can you get in to safe mode?
Virus?

not tried that but am thinking it maybe a virus...I am going to do a reinstall now,,,,cant be bothered messing about...i can have everything back on in a couple of hours
