Loved these back in the day! Does anyone know of anything similar? There must be something out there. Quite liked Killzone on the PSP, despite not being a proper isometric shooter. They are a bit clunky to say the least today, and a bitch to run properly (I have DOSBoxed them)

Help me out please :)

Bonus would be a semi realistic setting. Internet cookies waiting!

Alien Swarm is good and is free on Steam which is a bonus. It's more MP oriented, so not sure what the singleplayer is like (http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/).

Both Shadowgrounds games are also good (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/552/).

You also have the modern Alien Breed series (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22610/). There are three in total at the moment, but I've only played the first. They were all released fairly closed together so I imagine the 2nd and 3rd and much the same as the first. I thought the first was alright.

None of them are isometric shooters, but they are all 3D top down shooters which are the modern equivalent really.

Some of my favourite games ever! :D

Have a look at the Alien Shooter and Zombie Shooter games on Steam.

They are isometric, feel a lot looser than Crusader with nowhere near the production budget but they are fun for a quick blast through...can't think of anything else similar though....oh for a Crusader 3!

Cheers, the Zombie Shooter games look great. Downloading the demos now ;)

I'd love a Crusader 3... But I doubt it would fare well with the CODs and BLOPS of the world :(

Hope you like them. :)

Nah, we'll never see it's like again...there was something special about No Remorse and No Regret, from the high quality artwork, to the fact that virtually everything could be destroyed, to the death animations, the music, the cheesy FMV and rebel base where you could buy weapons (in the first one), even down to the bits and pieces such as maps that came in the box (big cardboard box, long before DVD boxes)...it was just fantastic...I think I may need to fire up Dosbox and have a play again at some point soon!

Ahhhh bliss.

They wouldn't do it these days as it's too old school and it's probably too detailed, expensive and risky for an indie developer to undertake.

They are on abandonia.com btw if you can't find your original boxes (and maps! ;))

Edit: seems they have been taken down due to some dispute... C3 coming? :p

Forgot to say Virtual Box is good for 98/XP emulation. The DirectX emulation is a bit pants though, hardly matters to games like this. I've a VM for 98 and XP for older stuff

FWIW I have found with some "newer" old games, ones that install fine on Win 7 64 but refuse to launch, is that if you install them in a VM and copy/paste the games directory via a virtual shared folder from the VM to the Win 7 directory they often run fine. Played a bit of G-Police the other day, in glorious 16 bit hardware accelerated 1280x1024 on my Win 7 64 gaming PC (no mean feat by looking at threads online!)

I doubt we'll ever see a game in the Crusader vein again - they were absolutely fantastic back in the day. I learned more about command lines trying to got No Remorse working in DOS than I did at any other time.

Incidentally, myself and a friend of mine spent a long time coming up with a title for a third Crusader game. The best, I think, was Crusader: No Respite. Damn, but I wish the'y'd release a third one - even Remorse or Regret remastered would do me!

I've just had an email through from GOG and they are releasing Crusader No Remorse on there - DRM free and fully working with new operating systems with no messing about (we hope)!

Even though I've got No Remorse and No Regret I think I may be purchasing! :D

See here!

Excellent! No need for thread Nazism Neil79, more people know the better ;)

Edit: I had wondered why No Remorse/Regret were taken off of abandonia.com, they mentioned a dispute, must have been EA lining up this deal
