Today, I have decided to start a new hobby that doesn't involve sitting on my round buttocks which Sic and Mohinder greatly admired whilst I queued for a burger at the Liverpool meet. :p

Hmm, anyway...

It isn't exactly fit, but it's cooking. I'm quite good and crafty at it, but I've never really done anything amazing. I was wondering if you guys could come up with some suggestions for something I could make that isn't really simple, but also not very difficult.

For example, a Pizza is too simple, but fish with a sauce and side-dish might be a little overwhelming to start off with.

So what can you suggest? I was thinking something along the lines of Chicken or something not very common. I'm quite open to all traditions of food so you can throw some unusual/foreign dishes my way, also.

Thanks,

Phil. :)

if you've never really done anything before what makes you think you will be fine with all the complicated dishes?? I'd start simple, learn all the basics etc and work up.. but thats just me.

How about something like chilli con carne & salsa etc, with nachos covered in cheese and other nice things to start. You can make it as easy (buy packet of mince, kidney beans, tinned toms & chilli con carne mix and follow instructions) or as hard (all done from scratch) as you like.

Or lasagne. It's pretty easy to cook from scratch.

I'd advise something that's an 'all in one' dish, or can be eaten with salad because getting the timings right in cooking takes practice.

This is one thing I made while at uni for a couple of friends and they absolutely loved it. One is a certified chef and thinks i'm pretty good at cooking :D

Anyway, I made a lasagne with a helping of garlic mixed into the mince and a top layer of aubergines coated in cheese. It was lovely.

Try making this (it'll be a good confidence booster):

Garlic-Mushroom Tagliatelle:

  1. Take about 3-4 chicken breasts (dependant on how many people are eating. One breast per person should be enough.)
  2. Cut them [the chicken breasts] up into little nuggets with a pair of scissors and put them on a plate.
  3. Brown the chicken in a frying pan.
  4. Take a corgette or two and slice them into thin slices.
  5. Cut up a few mushrooms.
  6. Now you can make this sauce yourself with some cream etc, but it'll be easier if you buy the jar of it. You will need a jar of Homepride garlic-mushroom.
  7. Once the chicken is browned, drain off the excess liquid.
  8. Shallow fry the corgettes and mushrooms.
  9. Once everything is beginning to get a nice colour of brown, add the garlic-mushroom sauce, the corgettes and mushrooms all into the same pan.
  10. Begin to boil some tagliatelle.
  11. When the tagliatelle is done, drain it and then add it to the pan aswell.
  12. Mix everything together, fry for about a minute and then serve.

EDIT: Say thank you to LostKat :p

I'm not a total n00b, I can follow instructions and I've done a few things before like curry's etc. :)

Told everyone I'll be cooking tea and they're telling me to hurry and get the ingredients now. Suppose I could just do what any normal person does and browse sites. :)

Phil.
