It has started already, the RTX 2070 can be had for £378, which seems about right as that is what a GTX 1070 cost, or thereabouts. Obviously AMD will end up dropping the price on the 5700XT to $429/$399 withing 6 weeks of the launch, whether officially or unofficially through channel rebates.

I'd call them a prime example, but one model, one manufacturer etc.

Keeping my eye(s) peeled for a deal on an RTX 2060 or something, as I am totally not keeping my 3GB R9 280X for when WoW Classic launches in August, was hoping someone would take my trade in the MM for my brand new 8700K as a swap but it seems nobody wants Intel anymore. :D

When you say "they", you're referring to a post by one person. I was tempted by the 1080 Ti too at £579 but still so glad I bought a 2080 (not Ti) for more money, for me PERSONALLY :). People need to get over themselves and remember that others all think differently and have different needs (and budgets). I've enjoyed trying RT including playing around with settings in Quake 2 to see the effects on RT (sun elevation, position etc). It's been worth the £160 quid over the 1080 Ti (which was the best price for the old Ti).
I don't like console gaming. I would be tempted by a 2080 Ti Super @ 30% faster (very unlikely) than a 2080 Ti (from a 2080) although I will probably wait for 7nm too but really because it hardly makes sense to update to another card in the same generation. The best upgrade for anyone with a 20** card will be the 30** series.
Thanks to 20 series buyers your 30 series GPU & RT technology will have evolved further :).
To me, buying the 1080 Ti at EOL was the wrong choice hence I'm glad I didn't do it but each to their own. Trying RT has been pretty awesome. Also done a lot more gaming because of it too so got my £ worth from it already.

So really all those saying that RTX was a gimmick are being proved wrong. There are games out there now with RTX and a host of top AAA titles announced coming in the future.

How many fully featured RTX games do you think will have been launched prior to a Turing successor being launched? Also, how many are there now, just one week shy of 9 months after launch?

Just to be clear, a gimmick is - "a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade."

I think next generation will prove less of a 'gimmick', as they have something to actually run on the blooming cards they are selling. :)

Peoples opinions often are based on their own self-focus unfortunately. Ie, want a 2080 Ti but don't want to pay £1099? it's easy to hate it/dismiss it including the RT tech and blame others for stuff (buying them!). :)
Everyone knows RT is in it's early stages and probably more complicated than other recent technologies used, such as tessellation. It's still early days but would be foolish to think it's a gimmick. It brings more realistic gaming and going to improve from Version 1. It's been slow to be honest(game implementation of it), but there seems to be a fair few games coming now. I can understand why some may not be too bothered by it right now - in a few gpu generations from now it's of course going to be so much better.

If there is a drip on the 5700XT I may bite, but only a third version, and hold out for Navi 20. The Super cards sound like they may have a pretty good spec but I'd then be tempted to get a 2080 Super! At least with AMD my ambitions are capped :D

This is why I am happy as larry with my 2080Ti and will wait it out for 7nm. I see no need going for the "super", as my 2080Ti copes with everything I throw at it, including Raytracing at 3440x1440. No idea what the dickens Easyrider is blabbing on about and he thinks he knows it all but knows **** all :D

Forgive me if im wrong but radeon rays is not a real time RT solution ? Is it used in any games ? for that matter is is using in any pro software and and in what way. How does it compare to RTX? or is it just a off line solution.

Fair point but still current gen :) - vs EOL AND previous gen. Also been using it for must be 9 months now. Maybe they'll sell both 2080's but I highly doubt it to be honest. Either way, it's been great using RT since they were released 9 months ago on a possible soon to be EOL current gen GPU & the extra performance in newer titles has been good too.

Well it will be 9 months in 6 days time, 20th September 2018, was the RTX 2080 launch date, if you wanted to add in the announcement date, then that was 10 months ago, August 20th 2018. The mind boggles how fast time passes, and how little content is still out there :p

Let hope come 20th April 2020, when that other game is out (2077), there will be more to follow - only 20 months after announcement! :D
