Something to play online other than WoW

Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001.[7]
RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in January 2001 by Andrew and Paul Gower,[2]

Not saying either are the first, there are probably ones before both.

WoW is definitely not the first MMO ever.
ofcourse it isnt how can people even think this?
The term MMORPG was coined by Richard Garriott, the creator of Ultima Online, in 1997

The only thing about DDO is that it's VERY group oriented. Much more fun with a few mates, not so much solo, since you only get xp for actually finishing an adventure, so if you die during it and there's no-one to bring you to a resurrection shrine your time's wasted.

LoTRO felt like WoW? You serious?

Are you trying to claim it doesn't?

Of course WoW was far from the first, and I think a lot ofpeople failed to detect the sarcasm in efour's post, but they did give the majority of modern mmo's the feel they currently have. While they stole features from pretty much every previous MMO (besides UO, sadly, because then it actually might of been decent), they also made it their own.

city of heroes wouldnt update for me, trying EQ2 now.

my laptop specs are like an ati x1200, amd 1.6ghz dual core, 2gb of ram, runs wow fine, im hoping it will run EQ2 on low settings.

just ******* great, the one game that actually seems like its gonna work for me, i make an account, make a character, but half way through loading to get in the game i get a CTD and a message saying its stopped working, tried 3 times now, shame as i was really liking the look of EQ2.

Anyone have any suggestions for getting WoW to work, i got a trial for it, have an account, log in, try and select a realm to join, i press ok once the realm is selected, it then just says 'Connected' message for about 2 minutes, then a message saying 'disconnected from the server'. My internet is fine for every other game.

thanks

lol yeah, well i got EQ2 working, but the performance is DREADFULL, all settings at low its about 10fps and chugging along, i dont know if this is because its downloading files as i play, the game supports dual core, i have 1.6ghz dual core, 2gb of ram and a ati x1200 256mb i think, which should run a 2004 game on low settings.

wanna get wow working tbh as it just seems better than all of these.

Not EQ2, when it was released there wasn't a PC capable of running it at full tilt. It was only last year I was finally able to max it out with a 4870.

ah well i got it running at lowest, might wait til my PC is back up and running rather than my laptop. Seems like a nice little game though (y)

your lucky if you can get EQ2 runni9ng, even in compatibility mode its freezes or just crashes frequently with Win7-64.

For me i could never get past the char screen (if i was lucky)
