Rusty pipes... And the drain pipe from the turbo to sump.

Looking good! :D

Car gets tuned tomorrow (ECU remap etc...). And I'm putting new brakes on Friday (makes sense when you have more power ;)).

My bike's going to get lonely!!!

Well at the moment probably around 190+... Which is 50 more than I have (stock is 140bhp). Later, I'll be going for bigger injectors and a new ECU which will see me to around 230 or so... but one thing at a time! :D

Was checking out the FM site before tea, they are redoing the turbo kits at the moment, superchargers look good but turbo is prob the way to go, wouldn't mind knowing the cost of the bits then fitting and mapping and who did it for you, e-mail add in trust if you don't want to post it ;)

There are still lots of kits still available, I'd keep away from the BBR kits though.

Oh yeahhh..

Those before and after pics are clearly not of the same car ;)

Stand by it with a piece of paper with your name on :p

Looking good Will, it's going to be quick :D

I hope so! :p

And don't you bloody well start with that nonsense, you know I borrowed your portable sun! :p

:D Looking good.

How much did it set you back to the conversion? Much more fun to drive?

I don't know what it's like to drive yet (well I do really: the car is awesome standard ;))! It'll be back on the road Friday after the new brakes are fitted. The ECU is being mapped tomorrow hopefully too.

As for cost well I got a pretty good deal it's going to be around £2.5k when all is done, so to be honest, not bad at all. :)

Oh and the insurance has only gone up by £65 for the year :D

Old?! :(

Well the chassis was so over engineered (as was the engine really) that it can easily cope with a lot more power, and to be honest I don't understand why they didn't manufacturer them in Europe with a turbo as standard.You/I'll still be able to have lots of fun at legal speeds - that's part of the fun, yanking it round a roundabout or a series of tight bends. The only this is now I'll have an extra a little bit of power to get me going again ;)

I can't wait... Friday isn't going to come quickly enough!!

Wonder who'd be quicker round a track now. You have slightly superior power now and you have rwd, but mine's a whole lot easier to drive quick being FWD and I think I'm a bit lighter.

Would be interesting.

Yeah it would. You're about 60kg lighter which helps. But power to weight ratio is in my favour now (well without me in it anyway :o).

Both the clio and mx5 are reknown for their cornering ability - but maybe there might be a bit of an advantage with less potential understeer of the mx5?

Obviously I'd be quicker cos I'm better than you :p Seriously though it would be interesting to get an "expert" to try them both.

Some of it is a bit bespoke, most of the kit comes from "flyin' miata" from the States (nice and cheap - well until they tax you here :() There are some specifically designed parts like the exhaust manifold, the downpipe and the air intake setup for example as well as a few other bits and pieces. However it uses a garett turbo, trackdog racing intercooler and a few other "standard" bits. Though obviously a lot of the bits are specifically designed around the mx5 :)

The CR doesn't need to be lowered - for a start you need new pistons, and the internals are good for 250bhp without any extra work on them.

As for getting it Dyno'ed I'm not sure if the guy who's doing the ecu tuning will or not. As for estimated power - I'm hoping around 190, which would relate to around 170 lbft - which is a significant improvement on the standard 130 lbft it has, it's just an estimate using my crude mathematics :p

The car weighs (without me in it) around 1047kg.

any reason for the GT28? seems a bit overkill for the power you are looking at running and a smaller turbo would be more responsive. :)

Truthfully: it was recommended to me. And from what I have read on it, it seemed reliable and trustworthy. Furthermore, in due course I probably will increase the performance. If it ends up being too much of a PIA performance wise I can always sort it out later I guess. I haven't it found too laggy - it seems to get up to speed by 3.5k rpm - but we'll see when it's back from the tuners! :p
