Somethings wrong... and I think its my CPU

Recently ordered the components for a new PC and got it all installed yesterday.
Everything is connected properly and when I hook it all up and turn it on everything seems to power on correctly. But I dont get any signal from my monitor. Everything seems to be getting power but theres just no response.

After trying a few different monitors, rechecking all of my connections and trying everything I could think of I still get no response.
So i'm thinking my CPU is borked.
Its an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz.
Motherboard is an Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard.
Gfx card is a BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express).

Before I contact OC and ask for a replacement CPU, is there anything else it could possibly be?

I would have thought graphics card was a more likely problem - if everything spins up, no POST beeps, doesn't shut down, HDD spins/makes noises like a bioot-up, but no display.

Could be graphics, but no POST beeps isn't really good, as I think most machines beep once which means "OK". Wonder if there is anything out there that is bootable from CD, and also plays some kinda of music so you could put it down to not receiving a display.

i know its a nice fresh system... but clear the cmos!

just remove the battery for a few seconds... minutes (i made a cup of tea when i done mine lol) put it back in then try again!

Im only saying that as i have never really had to do that except when i changed my graphics card... the screen would just not fire up even tho everything else did :|

Just sounds similar to your problem... thought it might be worth a shot :)

If you dont't get it posting with at least some beeps, I would suggest pulling off everything apart from mobo power and the cpu (and the speaker connector.) The board should then when powered, moan loudly (post beeps) about missing RAM, missing Video and so on. If that still fails to Post with an audible beep I'd completely dismantle everything (including removing the motherboard from the MB tray), reseat the cpu/cooler, connect the speaker, and give motherboard power at which point it *must* post with error beeps. If you get that far, then systematically rebuild again, and test for post beeps after each step, adding hardware until it either dies again (at which point you know which bit is causing the trouble) or until you're finished and it posts with a BIOS screen on your monitor.

If it doesn't post with a minimum of things connected (e.g. cpu, speaker, power to mobo) then I'd have the PSU tested/swapped out with a known working PSU. If it's not the PSU and it still doesn't work then either your CPU or Mobo is dead, and you'll have to eliminate one or the other by trying another known working CPU or mobo.

Hope that helps.

Ok, got home and retested everything.
Realised there was no PC speaker installed so we ripped one out of an old PC and connected it.
The beeps told us it was an issue with the video card, so we took another video card from another machine and tried it, same result.
So we took my new graphics and put it in the other PC, it booted up fine.

So now we're thinking its the PCI-E slot on the motherboard.
So i'm going to contact OC when they're open and ask for a replacement. The problem I now face is that the chip is already in the motherboard and i'm a bit edgy about removing it.
