Something's wrong with my PC...

Ok, so a couple of things happened to make me a bit suspicious about my PC, and since I did a reformat this morning I decided to run a few benchmarks off my fresh install of Windows XP Pro x64 (all latest patches, only NOD32 and Realtek sound panel in background). A link to a super-detailed full spec is in my sig, and I'm now running nForce 6.86 and Forceware 93.71 drivers.

Opteron 146 at 2.8GHz and 7900GT at stock (450/1320):

3DM01 - 31336
3DM03 - 17098
3DM05 - 8037
3DM06 - 4141

PCM04 - 5271
PCM05 - 4914

Opteron 146 at 2.8GHz and 7900GT overclocked (550/1500):

3DM01 - 32794
3DM03 - 19556
3DM05 - 9383
3DM06 - 4759
(Compare URL's for these are in my sig)

Now at first glance they might look like a pretty average set of benchmarks, but when using the ORB Result Analyser thingy on the Futuremark website, my system is consistently right at the bottom of the table when compared to similar systems. Most disconcertingly, my PC performs a LOT worse than my old P4 3.2C in many of the PCM04 tests and even gets beaten in some of the display tests by my old 9800 Pro!! What's up with that??

No idea what could be wrong, but obviously (imo) there is a hidden performance hit being taken somewhere!

Can anyone help me out please? :(

Cheers,

Suman

Check and see what drivers other people are using who get good results, try those...

On an unrelated note you just made me realise ORB thinks I have an athlon 64 when its a barton

Your 3D mark figures are consistent with my 7800GTX/x2 @2.6 so no problem. Also PCMark is so Intel biased that I would dump it and look at Sandra or Everest.

Hmm, am I just being paranoid then? How come people with slower CPU's and similarly clocked cards are scoring up to 500 points more than me then? :(

Cheers,

Suman

Yeah I do a couple of those tweaks when benching (setting process priority to high, setting nV drivers to High Performance mode etc.). The only thing I can think of is maybe it is slower running x64? Although when I benchmarked a while back in real games comparing x64 and XP there was no difference whatsoever!

Cheers,

Suman
