Somnium VR1 (PC VR)

Not sure if anyone botherd to watch this mornigs live stream update....but literally no new information was given.

They hope to start a reservation system this month, but don't know when it will finally launch. Well into 2024 anyway.

Pricing......well it's going to be expensive, very expensive. My guess is the base model will be well over £1,000. Maybe over £2,000.

yeah I think ur right its going to be expensive and 2024 before any volume, at least they are not wasting time/effort on standalone and it looks like you can opt out of MR/XR too in the options

I managed to chat with the CEO for a few minutes this week. They have the production ready lenses on test and say it's the clearest lens currently available on the market.
They have heavily invested in the production facility, to the point they have microscopes scanning each display for defects.

Pre-orders next week

Any snippets on price?

Did a date or price arrive with your pre-order number?
I thought I was quite quick going on that list but didn't get an email :(

Nope, still nothing. They aren't coming across as professional either. Too many dangling carrots atm.
The CEO will say something like "big price announcement if this comment gets 100 likes", they when he gets the likes he makes a video but mutes the sound.

The only thing he has confirmed is that the base price for just the headsets and nothing else (no strap even) will be MORE than £1,500 ex VAT! and the top of the range one will be less than £3,500.

Unless my finances change and the hmd was near to perfect I doubt i'll ever spend that sort of money for a vr headset again. I've bought an Aero @ £2k but I had less outgoings back then and more spare cash. And tbh I'm not sure that money on a hmd i can justify to myself when i can spend a fraction on a hmd that does more or less the same things, and hmd's are outdated in a small number of years.

You have one? Nice!

No, not yet.....still debating it. I could buy a brand new sim rig and seat for half the price this will cost.
That's a photo from the CEO. It's much smaller than I expected.

If we didn't need a new bathroom next year I wouldn't hesitate, but £2k is a lot of money! and I can't really fault the neo 3 link I'm currently using. I'm having many hours enjoyment with it.

Prices are starting to come out now

EUR 1899ex VAT for base unit only

When you factor in VAT, headstrap, audio and eyetracking it's looking like £2,500+

It's a shame VRgineers teamed up with Somnium, rather than just make a consumer headset themselves. They really come across as a bunch of unprofessional cowboys.
