Sonic Gold - what's real?

In the process of pricing up laying laminate down in the living/dining room, and since Sonic Gold underlay seems to unanimously get voted as the best on here, I figured I'd go with that.

Having read the threads about dodgy sellers trying to palm off "fake" stuff, I thought it would make sense to get it from a supposedly trustworthy source, however so far I've found:

http://www.luxuryflooringandfurnish...ate-and-wood-flooring-underlay-5mm-thick.html

http://www.tradepriced.co.uk/sonic_gold_laminate_hardwood_underlay.html

http://www.screwfix.com/p/vitrex-sonic-gold-acoustic-wood-laminate-underlay-2-5mm-10m-gold/33378

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonic-30sqm-Laminate-Flooring-Underlay/dp/B006Z9F410

So, the Amazon one is the cheapest, but only marginally cheaper than TradePriced - I'm guessing those are both legit?

However what's going on with the Screwfix one? it states it's only 2.5mm, whereas the others are 5mm?

Any recommendations on where to get it from?

Interested in this too. Does Sonic Gold have their own website? I cant find it from a quick search but if they do it might have a official suppliers list on it?

I bought from amazon (market place) and Ebay - they were both fake.

Trade priced were the only one that was real - they also send samples so you can check before you buy so I advise you to do that as it's been a while since I bought from them.

RE sonic gold website - it's manufactured by a company called Novostrat - their website is basic I'm afraid.

see my images in this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18535472

interestingly, such is the lack of info on this that if you google image "Novostrat sonic gold" you'll see a link to my image in that thread showing the comparison.

Yeah I read that thread - so it looks like TradePriced is the safest place to get it then.

Curious that Screwfix (who I'd assume to be legit, being as they're a big retail chain) seem to have a product which is advertised as Sonic Gold, but has completely different spec from any others... (2.5mm instead of 5mm, comes in 10m packs instead of the 15m that the others are selling)

amazon and ebay is a definate nono for this stuff

I've used tradepriced a number of times int he past and never had any issues.
Mind you mine was repeated orders for Cloud 9 underlay haha cracklng stuff

Just about to put my floor down using this, couple of questions.

Does the foil go on the bottom side or the top? I've assumed the bottom side..... I have a chipboard subfloor if that matters.
Which side do you tape? Does it matter?
Which direction should the underlay run? Perpendicular to the laminate or does it not matter?

I'm sure I could just make a best guess and it'd be fine, but would like to do it right.

Not sure if it helps, but i would stick to the genuine Royale Sonic Gold underlay - i've been a fitter for 26 years now and this stuff is the real deal.

At Burned Alive, run the underlay the opposite way to the position of the planks & tape the gold foil side as this is the DPM you need to secure (use the Barrier Pro X Tape)

Then crack open a bottle of Budweiser and relax at a job well done.
