Morning All

We got an LG C2 OLED at the end of last year and I wanted to get better sound for movies, sports etc, I’d love to have Atmos compatible hardware, looking to spend around £400 all in (Not earth shattering I know) we have a play 1 device just looking for thoughts & advice really, or should a be looking at a 5.1?

Thanks All!!!

It will certainly be an upgrade from the internal speakers so definitely worth it but don't expect a game changer compared to a dedicated 5.1.

I've got the Arc + rears and the sub but I built it up slowly which is decent to spread the costs and worth the money in my opinion. Considering the cost of it, I would definitely opt for a dedicated atmos set up if the mrs allowed :D

Your play 1 won't be compatible with the newer generation of products so will need to be upgraded should you wish to build a 5.1+ set up using Sonos products.

Hmmm will have to get the drunk and see :)

Is

Is that your set or something on sale bud?

No not mine just browsing AV systems roughly in your budget.

There's also

It's doable I've seen q acoustics 5.0 5.1 system for about £350 left over add avr and cable and other bits

Or if system is 5.0 add subwoofer later

In terms of home cinema, as you've probably already realised yourself, £400 isn't a massive budget really.

You have a few choices

1) Go with something like Sonos and have the option to gradually expand it - the base product might not satisfy you and long term costs will add up significantly though. Sonos isn't ideal when shopping on a budget really.
2) Get a non-Sonos soundbar package with a sub. Simple option at this budget but unlikely to be expandable in the future. Something like an LG SN5 as an example (not a specific recommendation). This is what I did as fitting proper surround sound in the living room was never on the cards.
3) Get a separates system secondhand - Immediate pro, @hornetstinger will do all your shopping around for you. Probably the best quality product overall if you're happy with shopping second hand. Can swap components out to add Atmos etc. later at more cost if you want.
4) Get a separates system new - you'll only be looking at the budget end of the market, maybe not even that. Same longer term benefit of swappable components but starting from a lower quality point.

I think you need to decide on exactly what it is you want, as Kenai outlined above.

You've gone from a fairly small soundbar to potentially having huge speakers around your room

I noticed you've used the term "we" in your opening post, so maybe a discussion with whoever it is you're living with and what they'd think of such a setup.

Cheapest Atmos system is something like this 7.1.4 nice speakers but sub is lacking so I'd looking into something else. You'll add a avr you'll be looking at £500 at least. Add hundred for speaker cable, banana plugs. And another couple of hundred of stands, around up to £2000

However that'll allow you change parts when needed with a soundbar it's locked in system can't be repaired/replaced, say if soundbar fails you'd need the same brand. If that wharfedale sub fails you can buy another make like svs, rel, whatever .

Edit I think to get Atmos avr 7.1.4 with enough amps for all those speakers probably need Denon 4700 4800 or something like that that is about what £1500 or so?

Thanks bud, was thinking around the single soundbar route for I fully appreciate this won’t give true surround sound immersion, I might do piece mill and buy the parts over time to spread the cost

I just setup my C2 65" and find the speakers terrible. My old C8 OLED was much better.

I know internal speakers aren't great but can tell a big difference from the C8 to C2

After researching I'm torn between the Sonos Beam gen 2 and Bose 600 smart speaker. Both around £500.
