Went to the Sony center yesterday are getting my Sony SRS-X99 Wireless Speaker with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth ( Thanks to my other half )

I had to stop and look at the Sony 49X830C 4K Ultra HD 120Hz Smart LED TV and i was blown away with the stunning 4K , now thinking about buying :D

Does anybody have this 4K Sony 49X830C ? or any advice :D

Any reviews on-line

Ultimately the question has to be: Is it worth paying a premium for 4K when the majority of the content you'll likely be watching on it won't be 4K?

Question will 4K take off like 3D did not

I still have my Sony KDL-42W706B which is 1920 x 1080p and a stunning set but very tempted to buy Sony 49X830C 4K Ultra HD 120Hz Smart LED TV

Yes 4K will take off but don't expect masses of content anytime soon.

Bt will start broadcasting sport in 4k in august and no doubt sky will follow suit in the coming weeks.

Personally im more looking forward to HDR.

I have one arriving this Thursday, looking forward to it! Will let you know how I find it, as I also have a Sony 42" W7 (2014 model) in a different room so I can compare the two.

:D good stuff

Think Sony over the last year have really stepped up to the mark with television
I was blown away with the Sony 49X830C 4K Ultra HD 120Hz Smart LED TV and at a good price

Had one, returned it. Android TV on it is a buggy mess which gets in the way of basic TV functionality. Panel is IPS, so none existent black's and terrible contrast range, ie, only about 850:1.
On the up side the image processing is amazing, SD upscaling was incredible and blows the Samsung JU6400 out of the water. Being able to sideload android apps like kodi is pretty cool. But with HD and 4k material I'd chose either a Samsung or Panasonic with a VA panel instead.

Very surprised to hear that sony are using a IPS panel in this model that is not good news what are they thinking:eek:

Panasonic learned from last year and now all there 2015 models will use VA panels.

Have to agree with branddaly though go for a Panasonic or Samsung model in that case.

thanks for the review, I have not been impressed with ips panels in general on TVs especially when I compared it to the higher end VA panels on the samsungs like the JU6400 but surprised to hear SD upscaling was impressive.

Which tv set if I may ask are you going for on gone with ?

Still debating the JU6400 atm, but I know samsung 2016 TVs will ship with android and be better as always !

When did you buy it? The majority of reviews within the last few weeks/month state that nearly all of the old problems with Android TV have been fixed.

interesting to hear pannys gone VA panel for 2015 :)

I noticed the ips sonys and others not looking that good contrast/blacks wise compared to the samsung JU6400 va panel in currys the other day, may need to keep an eye out for these new panasonics see the Panasonic Viera TX-40CX400B at 500 quid maybe that one has va panel.

I purchased it when it was first released and it had around 1 update every two weeks. The last one just before I returned it was a vast improvement over the software it shipped with. However it was easy for them to get a vast improvement in, because so much was wrong.

I left it with it still randomly freezing, no 5.1 in netflix or amazon, no 4k amazon, (and amazon juddering and buffering), the freesat guide being useless (only populating now and next for the channel you were on), the recording functionality pushed out to October, the picture and sound cutting out whenever you used the guide, it failing to allow mulitasking (using the menus stopped you watching tv), a bigger focus on games than content, and tonne of garbage apps in play store. There are a couple of good reviews on trustedreviews and forbes. There is also a 58 page thread on the Sony community forums about the issues, so you can track when they get resolved.

If the panel was better and my initial experience of Android TV (which was really shocking and required a complete factory reset of the tv every few days) not so horrendous I might have kept the TV. But my wife hated it, and that is pretty much the nail in coffin for any tech in my house.

But the picture was stunning. Wish Samsung had the x1 image processor in it. I get the impression this is where Sony spent a lot of the budget.

I take it that was the picture quality for SD stuff with the sony x1 processor?

but overall you still prefered the JU6400s PQ for blacks and HD stuff right?

Ok good, brings back a bit of confidence :D
Picture quality is the main thing I'm looking for in this TV, I don't use Netflix/Amazon Video and will end up plugging in a Fire Stick with Kodi for all my movies/tv shows anyway.

Actually, on a side note, does anyone know if Kodi will perform better through the Fire Stick or if I sideload it onto the TV itself?

I had kodi on a fire stick and it was terrible. Constant stuttering. On the fire tv box its perfectly fine. Returned my firestick within 24 hours of receiving it was useless.

Yeah I've noticed navigating menus isn't as smooth on the fire stick as my PC but video playback is generally fine - apart from anything HEVC/h.265. TV's arriving later so shall try Kodi on the TV, as apparently the TV can play HEVC/h.265 :D

4k with good upscaling is worth it alone! I was going to buy a 55w829 but wasn't impressed enough.
My Sony 55x8505 is noticeably better than HD on HD broadcasts.

What I am wondering is the Sony wireless sub woofer vs their 300w soundbar with sub. Which is better?

How long have you left it alone when you turn it on? I'd give it a minute or two just to be certain. You are effectively booting up a giant tablet when you turn it on and it can take a while especially on the initial boot.

If that offers you no joy i would be checking the other obvious one such as input select, although pressing the HOME button should eliminate this possibility also.

Good luck
