Sony 49X830C 4K

Thanks guys but I've tried absolutely everything.
Sony support were useless, asking me if I have tried pressing the on button on the remote...
All that happens is when I switch it on from the mains the white LED flashes continuously, left it for a good hour last night before switching it off and going to bed. Still nothing this morning, so I rang JL and they're sending me a replacement next Thursday and taking this one away.
What's strange is that no one from either Sony/JL has heard of this flashing white LED issue as it's usually a red LED when something's wrong.

I guess I have to wait another week to try it out then :p

Sounds very strange I think it just sounds like a duff unit really, not really much you can do when you press the on button and nothing happens exactly.

How did you find the return service I think its done via myHermes free right ?

Am still considering this sony set or the JU6400 from samsung or panasonics new 4K screens, the sony though sounds like it has excellent scaling abilities although all sets do, think ill need to visit currys or JL to recheck out the screens cos a right picky !

Well JL said that next Thursday they will collect the faulty unit and replace it with a new one, not sure if that's done via a JL van or Hermes.

I would say the Sony is better than the Samsung JU6400, not too sure about the Panasonics. The thing the Sony is brilliant at is the 4K upscaling, which from what I have seen in store is very good but supposedly the black levels aren't that great, but I haven't seen any dark content on it in store so I wouldn't know I'm afraid. Any reviews about a buggy Android TV are usually older reviews, the majority of newer reviews say to disregard older reviews as the majority of the issues have been fixed and Sony are continuing to release updates.

Have to say I saw the Sony 49X830C showing 4K a few weeks ago in my local Sony center , I was blown away with the colours and detail and picture quality of this set , it was outstanding and under 1K :D

Yeah that is the thing that is changing my mind the up scaling ability, I am unsure if 4K takes off so SD and 720/1080p is still going to be the main sources of viewing imo.

But blacks and contrast as people say is not so good on this sony screen.... the samsung excels in this area.

May have to pop to JL and check out the sets in person, the other issue is its an almost £800-900 tv vs the JU6400 which I can grab for £420 refurb model or £520 from hifi store.

Wish sony put much better prices on this tv and put in the better colour boosting tech.

Still that is great news JL are collecting and replacing the set all in one go although would have thought they would do this asap!

Same, was hoping for an earlier delivery but tbh I work for the company myself so I understand that sometimes it isn't really an option unless it's a serious issue in which case JL will sort it asap, but at a loss to themselves.

staff discount so you can't complain ;)

I would still attempt a price match lol

I checked the av forums on the Sony 830c series:

https://www.avforums.com/threads/sony-kd-x830c-owners-thread.1962965/page-2

Seems others like myself who prefer those detailed deep blacks and high contrast gone back to VA panels, some went back to samsung and another to an older sony va panel. I think ill just stick with Samsung's offerings for now + the price is right!

Good luck with your replacement am sure it will work and the up-scaling is 2nd to none.
