Anybody currently using one of these that could give me genuine feedback? even better if you've moved to one from a DSLR?

Finally made the decision to sell off my Canon gear and go smaller, my DSLR doesn't seem to come out as often as it should and when it does I'm always cursing the size/storage/weight etc. I was settled on a Lx100 but I think I'd prefer the option of interchangeable lenses, anybody made this move or could suggest a similar camera?

Cheers

I think one thing you need to take into consideration is to have a look at the native lens lineup, and see if it satisfies your needs. People sometimes say Sony's lens lineup is a bit lacking; I've not had a check in a while so I can't really say.

I've just done the same thing but moved to a 4/3 Olympus camera - feels the right size to features / quality trade off to me and will see the outside far more than my SLR ever did. I've played with the A600 and no doubt it ticks a lot of boxes but felt a bit too "lightweight" to me.

Has there not been rumours of an update to the the a600 for a while?

I've got to say I'm very interested in this camera. I'm looking at getting into skydiving photography and this camera seems to be perfect for it. Can be used to film, as well as doing stills.

Not fully investigated other options, non-changeable lenses that could do similar.

I've looked at few m4/3 and they all seem to be on par with each other and nothing that jumps out at me.

From what I've read a new Sony is due imminently whether its a replacement for the a6000 its not yet clear, talk of a a6100 and/or a7000 I may wait to see what comes out and how it affects the a6000 prices, 4k video and weather sealing are the suspected upgrade rumours.

Lens wise I'd probably be after a nice general purpose/walkabout lens, a wide angle and a 35ish mm prime all I believe are reasonably priced in the Sony range.

I got a a6000 last week. Only got the kit lens so far but find the camera very capable. Will pick up the 35mm 1.8 and 55-10 at some point.

Picked it up from John lewis for £510 so would be 460 with the £50 quid Sony redemption offer.

When does the cashback expire?

After the replacement A6000 prices should drop. No point in buying the replacement just because it's newer. It's all going to be about the specs and the ergonomics.

The E mount lens range is coming along nicely at the moment. I'd like to see some more 'lower cost' FE lenses, but it'll take a bit of time. Of course you can use your Cannon lenses if you have any left, or any lense from almost any manufacturer.

Got mine in HK last Christmas. Currently have the Sony 35mm f1.8 and the Sigma 19mm F2.8. Can't really fault it for what I paid compared to over here and much prefer it to the lower end DSLR's I've tried. The software on Android isn't too bad either - I take a lot of images in 16:9 20mp then set the software to auto convert to 1920*1080p upon wifi transfer. A quick edit in VCSO cam and I have images good for my monitor/TV/phone with very little effort. The kit lens is widely regarded as the weakest part, I didn't bother with it.

I've had once since release and absolutely love it. The reason I moved to the NEX-5R first and then upgraded to this is because I just wouldn't travel with my DSLR kit with it being so heavy.

The lens line up is much improved now and the FE (full frame) glass works pretty nicely on the A6000 if you're thinking of upping to an A7 at some point.

Loads of images on Flickr as you know, have a nosey at mine if you like and fire over any questions you've got.

As for A6000 replacement - can't see it happening in the next few months, I'd say that if the camera does everything you want it to then pick one up now and don't waste any time.

Thanks for that Steve I shall use tonight's night shift to browse your Flickr!

We go on holidays the end of September so I've set this as the cut off for a purchase which gives me a couple of months to watch prices.

The A6000 is a fantastic camera. Like people have said above, I ended up never taking my DSLR out as it was just to bulky. Picked up the A6000 after watching some videos on it and it blew me away.

The thing with these cameras is that you can either use them as you would a traditional DSLR (spot focusing for example) or use the new tech like lock on af (which is really good on the A6000). I only use the rear screen (the EVF is disabled) as I like looking at the whole sceen and believe me, tilt screens are amazing once you start seeing what they can do for you :)

I recently took mine to Japan with the 16-70 F4 Zeiss (grabbed it off the bay, saved about £200), 55-210mm, 16mm pancake (with UWA and Fisheye converters) and it was always in my hand rather than hanging down by my side or in my bag. It's just so light.

Battery usage is a bit meh but there are a couple of things you can do to lengthen it (flight mode, disable pre af, only have the EVF or monitor on and some other bits), but you can get some decent 3rd party batteries from the rainforest for about £10).

Here are some sample pics with the A6000 and the 16-70mm Zeiss.

I actually recently sold all of my Nikon gear and picked up the A7 II because of this camera. Granted the FE lenses are a fair bit more expensive but I can always pick up some older glass and adapt them

I've got the kit PZ lens which, if I'm completely honest, isn't as terrible as a lot of people make it out to be. Yes, you'll need to use Lightroom to sort the horrendous distortion but there's a lens profile for all the corrections so its simple.
I've got the Sigma 30mm 2.8 which is as sharp as you like and cheap - highly recommended if you want a good, cheap prime.
Got the Sony 50-210mm which is nice and cheap, pretty sharp.
A few manual focus Minolta lenses with a converter, really good fun to try especially with focus peaking.
My latest purchase was the Sony 10-18mm, its pretty damn awesome but pricey.

Thanks all for your feedback the cashback looks like a nice bonus at the moment and not wanting to rush right in just yet, I've done a quick shopping list as follows

A6000 body only (£50 cashback)
Sony 35mm f1.8
Sony 16mm f2.8 (£30 cashback)
Sony 50-210mm (£50 cashback)

I think that is a pretty good start and should cover what I need, I would have liked something a bit wider but the ultra wide converter fits the 16mm and would probably make do until I could afford the 10-18mm.

In terms of "old glass" where should I be looking, do they all need a converter or will some fit the E-mount?

Depends how wide you need to go really, the Sigma 19mm 2.8 is a fantastic bit of kit for the money if thats wide enough for you. Wouldn't bother so much with the 16mm pancake, returned mine as its just too soft in the corners (though I might have had an iffy copy).

Legacy glass - basically you can get a converter for just about anything. If you fancy getting something cheap to play around with, I got this combo:

Fotga Minolta MD to Sony E-mount
Minolta 50mm F:1.7 MD Lens

Total cost was just under £30. Beauty of the old glass is each appears to have its own characteristics, took this shot as an example with the above combo:

Obviously there's no image stabilisation and you'll have to manually focus but it makes you think about what you're doing that bit more, so loads of fun to be had!
