Sony Announces Mouse and Keyboard Controller for PS3

I may be wrong but haven't PS3 games been able to support USB keyboards and mice since the PS3 was first released? After all the XMB and internet browser supported them, and I can't imagine it would be very difficult for developers to add support into their titles. However even now many years after the PS3 was released no games support them. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens with this, with only a couple of Sony published games having support, and the other developers seeing sense and only allowing controllers.

Just reread it, you're right, i assumed from the way it was worded it was an official peripheral.

Might not be made by Sony, but it is licensed by them, so it's not as if it' s going to be something that Sony might try and block like they did with some joypads with one of the firmware updates.

Auto aim assist > mouse and keyboard

Not really. Once you've got your cross-hair re in the vicinity of a target then there's an advantage, but the speed you can pick out a target with a kb/mouse utterly trounces a joypad. If aim assist is still enabled as well when using one of these...

AFAIK UT3 is the only FPS that supports KBM, and that was years ago!

finally a time for me to consider purchasing a console - fed up with PC upgrades lasting 1-2 years worth of games.

To be fair, if you are good with a controller and there are people using the keyboard and mouse whats the big deal? Its hardly an advantage - especially if you are good with the controller.

Been doing it for a while on the xbox! :D

awaits flames once more..

There's been enough tests to know that poor player with kb mouse batters the crap out of the best controller players. If u want to be competitive u will need this because everyone else will use one, so why not just play on pc instead?

Bull. Go over to xim3 and watch some vids of good padders owning k+m that is all you get on these forums bad attitudes about this.

People have loads of mates on the console and have a right to use what ever device the feel comfy with.

I dont like pads for fps i have adapted to the k+m now and its the device i feel confident with. Months of playing with a pad and getting use to it i still dont fill confident even with good k/ds i hate aim assist also. With the xim 3 you can disabled it. and its a much better experience. So padders do have aim assist advantage over you.

There's a massive difference in the level of precision and response between the two. It simply isn't a level playing field; I hope the game developers find a way to make multiplayer games unplayable with these sorts of things.

Well if controller fans want the field to be level again, switch to keyboard and mouse? It would hardly be level because thats why they've chosen the console in the first place.

If people are that concerned with it, just switch to the keyboard and mouse - whats the deal with people having this 'restricting' feeling on what people should and shouldn't be allowed to use?

If a gamer is playing flight sim for example, why force him/her to use a mouse when they could use a joystick? One could argue that allowing joysticks in say BF2 is an unfair advantage over those who just have a mouse and keyboard....if you find its so uneven and unfair, just get a joystick... same deal applies.

Everything will moan about unfair advantage. i have an unfair advantage over a lot of pc users because i get 60 fps in all games i play online plus a 120hz monitor with a gaming mouse and keyboard and dolby headphone.

muhaha I love it when people rage over stuff like this. The quicker it becomes mainstream the better. Controllers suck.

How is anyone supposed to use a keyboard and mouse sat on the sofa in front of the TV?

I like PC gaming, but I have no problem using a controller for the consoles and a keyboard and mouse on the PC.

It would be major suicide for Sony to implement this into popular titles.
The whole reason the gaming industry has bucked the trend through the recession and, in some ways, gone from strength to strength is that finally with this gen gaming has bucked the trend as being something only for the super social outcast, hunched in a corner, with his precious gaming machine and desk.

Sounds like a dumb idea to go back to those days. There's a PC for that.

I don't want to watch some video's of pathetic wannabe gamers, who are so bad they still get owned by controller users.
Ive played MW2 with an XIM 2, as well as Reach, and frankly it was cheating. Maybe that comes from years of playing CS 1.6 semi-pro (not huge cash, but making a couple k per year as a teenager from CS is nothing to grumble at) but the controller players, even those in top clans, couldn't touch me.

You say you 'can disable it' .. so its an option? not forced?
Hell even with it forced the advantage is huge!

Ill just never understand why people feel the need to have an inherit advantage over someone else, and hide behind the guise of "I find it easier to play with a M/KB".
TBH, i found it easier to play CS with an aim bot, but i never because whats the bloody point?

lol, semi pro cs player beats pad user, well what a surprise, but do you honestly think that everybody who buys this mouse kb bundle is going to be as good at using it as yourself, I dont think so, which is why the video you are slating is not about 'pathetic wannabe gamers' but the actual people who will be using this product! Your whinging about nothing, believe me

If people want to see my views i've posted them elsewhere, i'm not going to repeat myself.

I am going to say however, the level of stupidity being displayed by some in this thread is just depressing.

Im sure Sony will implement filters in games to allow you (or force you?) to play people with similar input methods...

For the fact its being questioned if its going to be backwards compatible must mean it declares itself as different to a pad...

ps3ud0

interested to see how it works on games that have aim assist like COD on the consoles.
surely it would put the user at an unfair advantage?
