use to have this player and its not the best at upscaling and yes you will need to get yourself a hdmi, whats good about this player is you have a quick boot on it which boots it up in 8 seconds

£200 is max budget is there anything better for this price?

Just got a BDP-S350 myself. Excellent player, DVD upscaling look perfect on my KDL40W3000 and blu-ray play back quality is superb. Audio quality via the HDMI to my sorround system is fantastic as well.

Loads much faster the then BDP-S300 it replaced as you'd expect from a 2nd gen player, less than half as much time taken to load a Blu-Ray movie, and having Blu-Ray live functionality is a great addition.

Over budget, but could you squeeze out the funds for a PS3 ? Great blu p[layer for the price, and its dvd upscaling abilities are truly excellent. Not to mention it plays games, is a media centre, and loads up blu rays quicker than standalone players I have tested.

For a smidge over £200 you can get get the Sony 550, which decodes all current sound codecs (including HD) and sends over 7.1 analogues at the back. You can use any amp with 5.1+ inputs to hear your high def sound.

On the subject of BD-Live, apparently the profile 2.0 update for this player slows it down quite a bit and doesn't currently offer much benefit. Personally I'll hold off doing the update until I actually need it. Perhaps by then there'll be a newer firmware version that will be a bit faster.

i will be hoping to connect to my Z-5500s but ive got my pc connected and my 360 by optical, is this posible?

£200 is max budget, plus i have an origonal xbox as a media center :p not interested in any games on it, not until gran turismo 5 comes out anyway.

i think the whole package has tempted me the most, 6 free blurays costing £90 for them alone.

thanks for the replies everyone, just wondering about how to connect it to my Z-5500s now, as i said above got pc connected as normal and 360 through optical, any other way to connect it up?

thanks.

Blu-Ray to Surround Amp via HDMI, Surround Amp to TV via HMDI. Same goes for my Sky HD box all via HMDI. Although the Sky box also has an optical cable to the Amp as it doesn't output surround via HMDI. Have the Sony SF-1300 surround system.

Good player though we had to tweak the sound output settings to the amp from the default setup to get it working correctly.

Menu resembles cut down PS3.

The speed of a stand alone will make you cry.. Get a PS3. I had to sell my BDP-300 and buy a 2nd PS3 for bluray.

The noise of a PS3 will make you cry. Get a standalone.

Seriously, the 350 is much faster than older players and the slight delays that are still there are more than worth it for total silence whilst watching films.

We've got that BR Player, its very good, its very fast as has been said, but it helps to have a decent HDMI cable.

We tried a cheapo one, around £12.99, and the picture was far superior with our £50 one.

Hmm surely not? Or have I missed something?

Indeed I've heard the same. I've got muffled sound on the blu ray to my sony KDL40V4000 and wondered whether it's to do with the HDMI lead. Time to look at some monster / QED cables etc. but shame about the bloomin' cost
