Sony developing hack-proof PlayStation 3? (£186)

PS3's lower than £200 if people still think they're expensive they must be homeless. ;) The best piece of kit for a fraction of it's original price.

I'd consider shifting my old PS3 and buying a new one as I've one of the old original 40GB with a 80GB harddrive I got from a friend :p

Don't really play it much, but since it's getting on it might not hurt - especially if it comes with a game or 2!

If this is indeed true then it puts a bit of a dampener on the comments of the armchair security experts who said in the other thread that a hardware revision was impossible due to it not being compatible with all the existing games.

Oh God, that thread was pathetic. So many people thought they knew it all.

"That's it, it's the end for Sony, they can't do anything to fix this, believe me. I haven't ever worked in security but I know.":p

Good news for me tbh, i was considering 'upgrading' to a slim because my 40gb has been consistently full for a looong time now. Also i prefer the slim form factor and, well, lets be honest, there's always the background fear of a YLOD :p

This just cuts the price point down another notch for when i do finally invest in a replacement.

Ignoring the other reasons for purchasing a Slim, upgrading the HDD in these things are dead easy, takes literally 2-3 minutes with the right screwdriver. Of course you'll have to make a complete system backup first though, which isn't hard mind.

But but but... new and shinnneeeyyyyyy!

40Gb from a decent torrent site or newsgroup is only like 6 hours on a 20mb connection and that's pretty slow nowadays.Having said that you probably could complete it at least once, it's only a 4 hour or so single player campaign. Sigh.

I don't have my PS3 modded though, cba. No such thing as hack proof mind.

and how many people actually have 20mb connections (compared to the user base, even just uk userbase, of the PS3)?

A VERY tiny proportion

The majority of intenet users cannot even get a 20mb connection even if they wanted.....well they could if they had a few hundred a month spare but lets not go off track too much.

As of 2009 virgins network covered about 12.5 million homes (near enough 50%) and they were about to start adding another 500k. But that only means that its available. Most people I think will probably still be on 10mb as most don't need anything faster. Some do, but most don't.

We can't get it here :(

Surely if this is true Sony should replace all existing consoles FOC ;)

why on earth should they replace consoles that have been intentionally hacked? sorry but if you hack your console then you should have absolutely nothing from sony, period! infact sony should kill all the hacked consoles, and watch all the hackers run crying to the press about how big bad sony has turned their PS3s into paper weights, would make me laugh my behind off! :D
