Not natively but you can with other browsers. I presume the 2.2 ROM will also allow for flash (and eventually when SE release 2.2 on the X10).

Google Maps:

Google recently announced Google Maps 5.0 with some very impressive headline features. This includes 3D vector graphics as well as offline caching and rerouting. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is only partially supported as it includes panning, zooming, and tilting gestures only. What we are missing is the rotating gesture, which requires Android 2.2 (Froyo).

You’ll notice in the official video below, that a dual-touch gesture is used to enter the 3D mode, however X10 owners aren’t left out in the dark despite the lack of multitouch. The map modes can be toggled between 2D/3D by pressing the Compass logo in the top right of the screen. The 3D maps really does make an eye-catching difference when using maps, however it is only limited to around 100 cities right now globally (click here for the full list). The offline caching is also a very practical addition and is enabled automatically, storing the most used routes. You can download it from the Android Market now.

New Market:

The newest version of the Android Market which sports a redesign was announced last week and is now rolling out to handsets. We noticed the new market hit our Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 earlier this week, but it had a few bugs with icons part-missing. However, after clearing the cache and downloading a few more apps this morning the latest version seems to have downloaded and is working without a hitch.

The main change is the visual aspect, where the front end has been redesigned to include a carousel for promoted applications. Other changes include new widget/live wallpaper categories and single page app viewing (now including the download link). Another big change is that the app refund window has been reduced to 15 minutes from 24 hours. What is everyone’s verdict on the new Android Market? Seems like a worthwhile update to us.

:D

Andy have you tried any other ROMs. Am I right in thinking that some are simply modified versions of SE's 2.1 ROM (so everything works for day to day use)? Such as....Xten, X10 Eminence v1.0 whereas others (like the one you have tried) are stock 2.1 ROMs which still need work to get full functional?

Andy - have you tried installing xRecovery? Having an absolute mare! Tried installing apk - open the program and it doesn't find the three files. Tried manual installation but unsure what to do next. I have debugging ticked and Busybox installed.

Nope. I have only tried that AOSP ROMS and my god they are quick.

At present all ROMs other then AOSP ROMS are SE based.

Yes. Its very easy.

I found the APK file didn't work, if you open the APK using zip7 or like wise then browse to the raw folder and extract the contents. Then place these 3 files in the /System/Bin folder using Root explorer.

Reboot the phone, as soon as the SE logo appears press the back button a few times and hay presto you in to xRecovery :D

Any problems let me know.

Yeah, got it working (didn't initially realise about pressing the back button after the SE logo appears).

JIT and a factory restart has done my phone wonders!

Hhhmm seems my phone is back to its old ways. I have returned home to East Sussex and since near the end of my train journey, I have had no signal. I have tried turning on (and then off) Airplane mode with no luck and turning the phone off and then on. It has been 5 hours now :(. I am with O2 and didn't have this problem 3 weeks ago. Any ideas?

EDIT - Never mind, need to change it to GSM/WCDMA and the signal came back.

Have you tried the pre rooted version?

Nope I am on the rooted version and its moving in the right direction. :D

Sony Ericsson has released a new (minor) update for the Xperia X10 family. The firmware has been updated to version 2.0.2.A.0.24 with Baseband version 2.0.49. There is no official changelog from the company so we can’t officially say what changes it brings. The main improvements appear to be better performance overall including Timescape and Mediascape, a new keyboard and some users are reporting louder in-call volume.

So root has can now be applied after doing this update? Will it work from the Nordic 2.1 - with TS and a few other apps removed?

Happy Christmas by the way :)

Merry Xmas chap.

I don't think root can be applied at this point. Its only in a rootable verison from the xRecovery app.

Just flashed and rooted. Need to install JIT and the rest.

Pre JIT - 545 in Quadrant.

Post JIT (with no app removal or tweaking) - 682

Post JIT with TS and a few other less useful apps removed - 723
