Now this is a surprise move from Sony,

Sony Computer Entertainment will now be publishing Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters title in a surprise deal signed with Atari today, according to GamesIndustry.biz.

The game is set for a June 19 release alongside the Sony Pictures film, but only on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 platforms. They will have a period of exclusivity lasting several months until the PSP edition is launched.

It is unclear exactly what will happen to the Xbox 360 version of the game, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that Atari may look to publish it later on.

This will be the third publisher within a year for the Ghostbusters game. The former Vivendi title was dropped by Activision in the merger last summer, before subsequently being picked up by Atari.

"Wow! Talk about telekinetic activity, look at this mess!"

A bit of a shame for 360 only users that were interested in the title, I pretty much thought this was a guaranteed multi-plat title.

a real shame to be honest.

The PC and Xbox360 versions will be canceled or time delayed?

So what is going on here.

The game a mess and companies are dropping it like poo?

Or has Sony threw money at it to get a timed exclusive?

or a bit of both

wtf? what film?

i'll be gutted if the 360 version gets canned. people have had it on pre order for months now

25th Anniversary Edition on Blu-Ray coinciding with release of game.

Not too fussed about this, was going to get it on the PS3 anyway.

I would imagine they have thrown money at it to get it as an exclusive, due to this having the potential to earn a lot of money and shift a lot of PS3's off the back of the Blu Ray release, maybe a special pack will be coming out.

I'd be shocked if they did can the 360 release, i mean, it's probably nearly done already and would rake in millions of sales for Sony. However, wouldn't this make it the first Sony published game to get released on the 360?

Even Final Fantasy XI, previously published by Sony for Windows + PS2, had to be published by Square-Enix in order to make it to the 360.

I'd no idea that this was the third publisher for the game though...

This is bound to be one of the top selling titles of the year, I know everyone I know is going to get it, so why have two publishers dropped it.... hmm?

Is a shame though, as although I have a PS3, most of my friends play on Xbox so would have liked it on that.

Having seen gameplay videos imo this game isn't going to suck. As lowrider said i bet it's got something to do with Sony basically owning the IP, they were probably asking for a large percentage of the profits and scared off the other publishers.

I didn't know that Ghosbusters was so big,

  • With inflation adjustments, the film's original release grossed over US$500 million in the U.S., making it one of the highest grossing films of 1984 and the 31st highest grossing film of all time, domestically

  • Ghostbusters was released on June 8, 1984 in 1,339 theaters and grossed $13.6 million on its opening weekend[10] and $23 million in its first week, a studio record at the time.[11] The film was number one at the box office for five consecutive weeks, grossing $99.8 million in that time.[12] After seven weeks at number one, it was finally knocked to second place by Prince's film, Purple Rain and had grossed $142.6 million, second only to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as the year's top moneymaker.[13] However, Ghostbusters regained top spot the next week.[14] It went on to gross $229.2 million at the box office, making it the second highest-grossing film of 1984, behind only Beverly Hills Cop.[15]At the time, these figures put it within the top ten highest-grossing films of all-time.[16] A re-release in 1985 gave the film a total gross of $238.6 million surpassing Beverly Hills Cop and making Ghostbusters the most successful comedy of the 1980s.

I can see why Sony would like to keep this IP close to their chest.
