Sony grabs Ghostbusters from Atari

I didn't say the web site I said Game this was instore they told me this even after I mentioned about Sony they said they have been told it's a go still.

I used to work in that particular place, and tbh all they have to go on is a release schedule written by monkeys at head office.

I'd take what the guy said with a truck load of salt.

That game trailers video makes the game look highly uninteresting or fun. The guy doing the video plays games like my old man as well, moving the control pad round the room rather than moving the sticks.

Seems like Atari have shut up shop in europe, they will still publish games in the US though. Seems like Namco/bandai will pick up the publishing rights for atari in the EU at a later date. Could Sony of known this before hand and picked up the rights for Ghostbusters for a Playstation only release so as to still coincide with the BD release? Seems to be the sesnible option if you was Sony as there would be a delay with it passin over to Namco.

It's interesting you say that I remember manager of Game who was going to main meetings when Halo3 was about to be released even had the bag of goodies they give out so a lot of them are kept in the loop not just info from head office and my argument from before xbox live posted up vids of the game which are still there so if Sony had taken over they would be removed.

Good spot. I did have my suspicions that the reason why Sony made this a timed exclusive was purely because of the BD release. My theory on it was that development had fallen behind schedule and Sony had pumped money into the production of the lead platform to get it back on schedule, guess i wasn't quite right :p

Been reading through this earlier, so Sony are just paying money to prevent people in Europe playing the 360 version, well Sony are just utter ********* really aren't they.

Doesn't do anything for Sonys image nor will it really boost any sales, they aren't putting money into benefiting gamers for superior experience on PS3, they are merely making people wait. What's even worse is that the game will be out in the US on both platforms, way to anally screw over Europe more.

Ghostbusters is NOT a game people are going to go out and buy a PS3 for, maybe Sony should have been more wise with their money and have paid to get GTA IV exclusive.

I was under the impression that the game was to be delayed on all platforms in the EU and Sony has simply come forward to publish the PS3 version to get it out on time.

IIRC Sony made a deal with Atari to publish it in Europe, not including the 360 version obviously.

This game will be something like a 7-8/10, don't see the fuss about it really.

You talk like Sony are the only ones paying for region based exclusivity this generation and that this practice is new?

It sucks, but if all platforms were region free this wouldn't even be a problem - if you feel so strongly against this practice don't buy the game. I don't know much about this game but I imagine PS3/Ghostbusters Game/Ghostbusters Blu-ray bundle release will shift a few units as its a hugely popular series.

I don't see Ghostbusters as that big of a game, but if Sony have all out bought the rights to publish the game on any formats they see fit, with the Xbox360 version being so complete Sony would be stupid not to make money from Xbox owners, surely?

Either way, it will end up on Xbox360 eventually, if it's delayed I can say it doesn't bother me at all because I don't exactly see it as a major game, it would only have ever been a rental.

So many still getting this all wrong, so ive heard Sony paid no money to make it exclusive, its because Atari is no more as a publisher in Europe. Instead of the game being most probabley delayed by having Atari and Namco/Bandai working out the the details of having this being released as a namco title rather than an Atari one ie new cover art etc. Sony took the game off Atari (EU) hands and decided to publish the game themselves to coincide with the BD release the same day/week, not sure if this cost money or whatever but i guess its there IP to do with what they like. This is the reason why Atari are still releasing games on all formats same day in the US, they are still operating in that region and no such delay would have to off happened.

Is a Ghostbusters videogame that big a deal?

Could be a diamond in the rough I suppose.

Ghostbusters is one of the most profitable intellectual properties in the world. They've made billions from it over the years, so i'm sure Sony will be taking its release seriously.

I plan to purchase the game and the BD near release. I don't expect much from the game but to be able to watch the film in high def and then play the game therafter seems to good to miss :D

Plus if you buy the game you can get the film cheaper on some sites which is a nice incentive :)
