I'd say that was expected to be honest as they said the price was only so high in the first place due to production costs
And as the cell matures and Blu-ray diodes become more readily available and easier to make, the price to make them will at least halve I reckon

Not another US vs Euro rant but..... if you look at the price of a blu-ray/HD player in the US compared to here it’s almost halved in price as more players are released so i can’t see the problems in manufacturing. IMO its Sony needing the cash that has made the PS3 so expensive, the company is practically on its knees at the moment finically, so any cash injections from its most lucrative line are well needed

$100 is £50, which would make £375
if the ps3 gets cheaper it will be cheaper than a 360

360+20GB hdd+HD-DVD player+Live Subscription+2 Games = £448
PS3+60GB hdd+Blu-Ray player+FREE internet+2 Games = £494 which is £444 IF the price cut is £50ish
thats quite a good price considering your gettin 3x hdd space and free internet, saving u £40 a (EDIT)YEAR(/EDIT). so if it goes down in price the it obv gets closer to 360 price if u get the hd dvd player

You don't think MS would respond to any price cut with one of their own?
After hardcore buyers comes joe average. He won't even have heard of HD-DVD vs blu-ray, he won't understand HDMI, 1080i, Component, he wants to play Madden, etc. He'll buy 1 or 2 games a year max so Sony/MS need to be making profit per console before this person buys.
This is why $129 PS2s are flying off shelves. $299 / $399 360s are doing ok and PS3s are struggling.
This christmas MS will cut at least $50 off the price as it will have been out 2 years. If they cut $100 off and enter the holidays with a $199 / $299 console and a huge range of $20 classic games and the PS3 is still $499 / $599 it's all over.
The only problem MS have is the brand playstation is synomonous with gaming to general public and the brand XBox isn't. This is where MS will need to work.
Mario 64 & Zelda TP. Both simply supurb games (no matter how much of afanboy someone is, they'll admit to that) and both were launch games for a console.Darkaber said:

If that's true (I don't know I don't balance their books) then that means it would cripple them financially which can't be good, considering someone mentioned they were already supposedly "on their knees"
