I was wondering if any fellow nwa owners could shed some light on a problem im having. The battery life stated on the nwa is 20 hours+ but as of yet I've not managed to get more than 11 hours out if it. How is the battery life on yours?

Though the Sony can play MP3 rather than the Sony Atrac format, the player has to convert the tracks "Live" as they are played in ATrac format. I can get 34 hours out of mine with the screen on low brightness if its playing ATrac only - high BitRate Mp3 do limit the battery considerably.

I think you are slightly mistaken. To say mp3 files are converted to atrac is definitely wrong. Obviously if this were the case they would just convert the files once when they were being transferred to the player. It is also probably the case that the hardware isnt fast enough to do this kind of conversion.

It is actually the case that both atrac and mp3 must be decompressed into wav format as they are played. The difference is that this decompression is (presumably) harder to do (and therefore uses more power) from mp3 then from atrac.
