I wonder if this means they are planning a major PS3 price cut soon or something else?

Shares for Sony Corporation's subsidiary, Sony Financial Holdings Inc, went on sale in Japan today, with a total of 800,000 shares traded at a price of JPY 400,000 (GBP 1692, USD 3462) each.

That's the top line in a possible range, the lowest price of which was JPY 380,000 (GBP 1608, USD 3289) each, demonstrating demand for what was on its announcement initially received with limited interest.

Following a pre-offering cut from JPY 415,000 (GBP 1756, USD 3592) the shares raised JPY 320 billion (GBP 1.35 billion, USD 2.77 billion) with the proceeds thought to be heading towards the corporation's electronics division

Specifically that means a boost for the manufacture of Bravia televisions, and help for the PlayStation department as well - a move which was previously thought to have been indicative of an impending price cut for the PlayStation 3.

However, no such news was forthcoming at Sony's price-related announcement event, the Tokyo Games Show.

it needs something this xmas, price cut or 40gig model to drive up sales, price point does seem to be the main problem with a lot of people, even comparing it with what you get wise compared to the Elite, most people don't see that though, they just mainly want to play games on it, after all its still a console to most no matter what Sony says

There will definitely be a price cut. It's common sense that it needs one before Christmas.

Yes but the question is, by how much?
I can't see sales increasing that much with a 50 quid price drop.
That would bring the current bundle down to a rrp of £375 with a couple of games.
I think a rrp of £350 inc a couple of games would certainly help to drive up sales.

As I've seen them for £299 online, I would guess a price around there (£325 maybe) would be the price cut. Or as you say, £350 with a couple of games.

Who cares what price, it needs games.

It has games and plenty of them, there are lots of cross console games out now and coming out soon.

It makes it not attractive to someone who already has a 360, where it isnt worth buying one on top of a 360 at the moment, but someone buying only one console, then there are lots to play.

£299? Is that new and UK Spec?
I would happily pay that for one it if was new and UK Spec.
It certainly wouldn't replace my Xbox 360 but I could then at least play F1 and RFOM.
I thought I had done some good research trying to find them cheaper online, clearly I haven't.
Any chance of a hint at were you've seen them for £299?

The only way Id buy a ps3 is if it was <£200 and could play all media formats from an external hdd. Then Id only use it for a media center.

I cannot see how Sony can get themselves out of this mess?

I will be looking at getting one once GT5 comes out and Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil 4 was quite a surprise when compared to the others in the series, really enjoyed it as the gameplay was so fluid. Would have got it on the PC instead but apparently it is yet another poor transition.

I'd imagine this is going to be for the lower PS3 model they are introducing? I heard a rumour or something similar that they are introducing a low end PS3 model with a 40GB hard drive. There was also a discussion somewhere about it on the forum.

Just a quick question to PS3 owners, how much space is taken up for savegames etc and is all that hard disc space really necessary?

maybe they have raised that money so they can give PS3s away :p

price cut would be good and id probably pick one up when the price is right

Saves use anything from 100kb+, usually less than a few MB.

It's handy to have lots of space for music, photos, videos or game demos (downloaded from the PSN) :)
