Sony RX100 III being announced tomorrow?

Looks very nice, but also very expensive. I got my RX100 for £500 which was just on the tip of what I was willing to pay, if it's going to be £800 I'd rather opt for something else.

The mkIII includes an EVF now which will bump up the price. Also a faster lens 24-70 f1.8-2.8. Still too expensive for me but I can see why is more than the mkII.

Nice camera but the price is killer.
The lens speed boost was badly needed because high end compacts like the Panasonic LX7 effectively had a faster lens letting in more light and offering a shallower DoF despite a smaller sensor. Plus being wider at the wide end is a big gain for many people.

Thing is at that price there are many better options out there. The MK2 was overpriced as it was.

I would much rather have the Panasonic GM1 - smaller and lighter, better images and more versatile. The problem withe most compacts and fixed lens solution is you get lenses that cover the middle ground, but I want something that covers the wide and and something that covers the tele end. That can be done in a small light package using an m43 or other mirorless syste, which is why my compact/casual/pocket camera is just an Olympus EPM2, DSLR quality that fits in my trouser pocket with the lenses I want.\

Still, the RX100mk3 looks pretty serious spec wise and for people that work in the 24-70mm zone it could be very handy.

I got a Mk1 for a shade under £400, it's been a superb little camera for the last 2 years.

Price wise the Mk3 it's on the high side. Some nice new features but nothing that would rush me to upgrade mine.

It does look great, but there's no way I would ever consider spending that sort of money on a compact, versus investing in more m43 gear.

What sort if crazy trousers are you wearing! The rx100 is jeans pocket sized no way your mirror less beasty fits!

I don't wear jeans, mostly slacks and khakis/cargo pants or shorts this time of year.

A small m43 camera with a small lens is no bigger than the rx100.
A Panasonic gm1 and 14mm pancake is tiny.

Even when I have the 40-150mm lens on it fits fine in my ski pants and hiking trousers, better still in a jacket pocket.

Less zoom then the RX100/RX100m2
the older models had 3.6x this new mark 3 version says olnly 2.9x

The only just bought my RX100m2 about two weeks ago..:(
I would love to got this mark3 instead because it has a built a view finder..

Buy the hotshoe viewfinder for for MKII if you want one?
With a view finder fitted to the hotshoe the increase in size would make the RX100m2 camera not a compact/pocketable camera any more.
Plus it wouldn't fit into the case with the view finder fitted

What make the sony RX100's camera's so great is the fact that you can fit them in your pocket and take them anywhere with you..

I was contemplating getting an rx100 or a mkii for my holiday in September

I was thinking of the mk1 because it's a great little camera and can be picked up for a resonable price these days but then I thought about the mkii because I would like the tilt screen and a hotshoe for an external flash

Now the mkiii come along with an viewfinder built in ,which after owning dslr's is what I prefer over liveview ,it's a decent improvement on the previous versions especially the fast lens although I'd have liked a bit more on the long end for portraits , but they have removed the hotshoe! Gah lol

I don't know what to get now

Unless it's a pancake lens, absolutely not. The RX100s are tiny. About the same size as a Canon powershot s120.

Got it online from Value Basket plus latest promo code.

Love the camera and the little niggles it has still haven't been addressed by the M3 , all in all very pleased :D
