I've had a browse through the stickies and links and the hardware guide. I think the basic specs are up to the job of basic computing and gaming.

Full specs are here.

My intended card will be BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-025-BG) so I think the only issue here is that the card is spec'ed way higher resolution wise than the monitor, which I suppose is something of a hiccup.

I like the looks of the Sony monitor and the minimal footprint would be a definite bonus, plus I can get it for £160.

Other than that, can anyone recommend an alternative?

Cheers

I have 2 mate just set them up in dual mode running dual dvi from an x1800XT, really nice screen and they hide all the tatt behind as they go flat to the desk, payed 167 delivered for each one.

Any graphics card will do as u can run 1 in vga and 1 dvi or both dvi if you want if you get one of ati's dual dvi cards (most are dual dvi). You can play games stretched right across as they run 2560x1024 or you can just run on one but it mirrors it on the other something which im still tryng to resolve as i only set it up today. As for VESA im not sure what that means?
