In 2 minds, kind of cool but kind of awkward. And although it is nice to use your big 5" android screen it will kill your phone battery.

With my Olympus epm2 I have a transcend wireless SD card which works work at transferring photos to my phone or iPad, with the added advantage I can shoot raw with a much agree sensor and better ensues in a package that is hardly much bigger but has better ergonomics. Really what's desirable is much better integration of wireless so any camera can be used in that way. Sme cameras do ow have basic wireless capability but afaik the implementation has sucked.

This thing is a bit like a GoPro without the robust casing, I.e lens and sensor but no screen and few buttons.

Does seem like it would be kind of awkward for a lot of uses - especially easier to drop, etc. but the ability to see what your shooting on screen independent of the direction your pointing the camera potentially is a big plus.

Hands-on:

So it has it's own power and card slot. We need all the technical detail on this.

On the plus side my understanding QX 100 will work out as a far cheaper RX100mk2.

$250 cheaper.

It might not have raw and:

With it, you'll have access to advanced modes like aperture or shutter priority, but Sony opted to exclude access to a full-manual mode, so you'll need to use exposure compensation to make any tweaks.

but it will also shoot HD video.

It's a camera without the screen/viewfinder.

So if you want to take better pictures, you need that lens.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I want to take better pictures, why wouldn't I carry a better compact than that instead? Arguably a rectangular shape compact is easier to carry than a lens.

I am with you on this but the market for this camera is people who take photos on their smartphone and want to instantly share and use with all their apps like facebook etc. Although many phones have some basic implementation of these features they don't work as well as on the phone.

Adding the capabilities of a smartphone to the camera is what the samsung Galaxy NX mostly achieves this but then you end up paying both the price of a camera and the price of a smartphone to get the CPU+screen. Sharing these components makes sense and allow you to us you 4G connection to upload photos instantly to your facebook/flickr accounts etc. But it just doesn't look very ergonomic.

It just kind of looks awkward to use.

I already carry a phone and the lens/camera assembly looks a lot smaller and lighter than an equivalent compact meaning I could keep in a pocket much easier.
I've got a compact (G10) but rarely use it as the times I don't take my DSLR I generally find even the compact a bit bulky.

I am certainly really keen to see more about these and what phones they will fit to - currently got an S3.

^^ Nikon have a compact with android 2.2 but it is a terrible camera and bad implementation. Shame because they could make the V1 into a pretty cool phone-camera hybrid.

with a tiny sensor and a terrible lens without any zoom capabilities.....

But a lot more convenient than having to build a camera in situ. :p

They should have just made a phone with a bigger sensor and zoom lens, would be much more practical than this idea.

I really hope it does well. I love the idea

My only concern is whether the mount to the phone is strong enough.
