Hi

My friend is looking to buy a Sony Vaio E series i5 with a 5650, however it seems from reviews that the 5650 is underclocked to 450mhz. Is this still the case as most of the information can find on the web is around 6+ months old.

If so, can anyone recommend a tool to clock it to normal levels?

thanks

ill check my sons laptop and get back to you , aparently its really easy to overclock them and the temps i imagine would be fine because his laptop never gets hot unlike his old toshiba one...

ati dont let you download drivers using there driver identification tool thing they use now , its something to do with the licensing deal with some notebook manufacturers its not just sony

but you can get around it and download the actual driver file from ATI by using a link like
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...obile/10-12_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

that would be for the new 10.12 driver when they release 10.13 etc you just change the link to 10-13_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe.

anywya ill go check with radeon z.

5650 with clocks 450 and 790 on the memory

i had to use this to see the clocks http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1641/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.9.26.0_For_HD_5870.html

it would allow you to overclock aswell but its not my laptop so i dont want to play around, the gpu was only 35c though looking at the lotro char select screen so i imagine you could oc it to atleast 550 really easily and probably 650 with no issues.

they are probably only under clocked for the battery life because the laptop honestly only ever gets warm so heat shouldnt be a limiting factor

They are undervolted as well as under clocked so don't expect to get it over 550 unless you are lucky. My envy 14 was the same. I could only get that to 500

My E series happily sits at 650core 900mem with temps around 68 -69oC, my gf has the exact same laptop and hers also can sit happily at those clocks and going by most posts in the sony e series thread over at notebookreview it seems almost everyone else has had no problems getting their vaio to sit at 625+ without any problems.

What tool are you using to overclock?

I use AMD GPU Clock Tool to overclock and MSI Afterburner to monitor the temps, gpu usages etc, MSI won't let me set the core higher than 585mhz if your wondering why I don't just use it alone.
