Have been a big fan of sony phones since the k800(i) - that phone was immense tbh, but since then I've had a few problems with other Sony Ericsson phones - C902 - worst phone ever.... seriously I could write a small novel on the problems I had with that phone, the W595 was alright but still some glitches. I was running the Satio for the last two years (until I snapped my power connection...dont ask...) and have had to revert to my old W595 (always good to keep a spare), I really enjoyed my Satio, and was very disappointed that Sony just dropped the phone, it had great promise, a great 12MP camera (which I didnt think I used much but can feel it now I dont have it....stupid W595 doesnt even have a flash lol), even though it had a slow Symbian O/S I enjoyed using it.
Anyways at CES I came across a video on sonys Ion phone and almost fell in love with it, and seeing as Sony has finally dropped the Ericsson part of the equation (so that they phones are sony branded only) I have high hopes. It was originally meant to be a US release only but : http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/sony-xperia-ion-coming-to-uk-xperia-u-on-t-mobile-50007114/ : this link reveals that it is coming to the UK.... unfortunately to T-mobile though, hopefully it goes to O2 also, dont like the coverage T-mobile has here in N.I. know people who said their coverage was hopeless (but maybe thats changed from then but I doubt it) - looking forward to this phone

Silly purchase IMO. The SoC is already dated and it might not even come with ICS. By the time it is released here HTC will have better phones, and the GalaxyIII won't be too far away.

Yeh only thing I'm not fussed on is the overly large screen...which I'l no doubt break XD.

Owenb - Ive been considering a HTC or Galaxy (didnt know 3 was on its way), My W595 is making me feel dated lol

Might not come with ICS? Release models will come with Gingerbread although I think some ICS features will be present and the handset will be updated to ICS shortly after.

Not too convinced with the HTC/Tegra 3 - it is a bit hit and miss with current dual cores.

Yes it is an older SoC but are you going to be needing that much power over the next year? If I still had my X10 - it can do most things 2 years later and that phone was a relatively lower spec and more restrictive.

I do agree that the GS3 may be worth waiting for though.

EDIT - I am talking about the Xperia S not the ION as that won't be coming out here.

An S4 based Sony phone is due out in the summer - hopefully there will bump the GPU.

I thought that the ION is getting a UK release....and on T-Mobile? (or have I been lied to by the link and got my hopes up for nothing  lol )

No, it seems it's coming to the UK as well. Either way it seems to be VERY similar to the Xperia S(both using S3, 12MP camera, 1280*720 screen), but with a slightly larger screen.

And damn quick camera response time XD.

Releases with android 2.3(I think this is the current one) on release put updated to 4.0 when it's released.

Though screen is large...and its going to be expensive like all the rest....

The Xperia S is available on fairly cheap contracts - imagine the Ion will be similar. Sim free - most are £500 these days, it's only really Apple phones that charge an arm and a leg for new contracts.
