**** Sony Xperia™ XZ Premium ****

Thanks for letting me know. Your screen on time seems very low for 78% battery usage, but I have no idea how demanding Pokémon Go is. Hopefully Sony do something about the Phone Idle issue, but it was first reported on the Sony forum in December 2016 so it's not looking good :/

Anyways, don't want to derail the thread with Xperia X talk. Enjoy your new phone :)

Well that was fast, Oreo update is now out: https://blogs.sonymobile.com/2017/1...roid-8-0-oreo-rollout-with-xperia-xz-premium/

Our Android 8.0 Oreo* rollout starts from today**, with Xperia XZ Premium*** – some of the neat new features for this device include:

3D Creator – Our acclaimed 3D scanning feature first introduced with Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. It lets you scan your face, head, food or any object, rendering it as a 3D avatar or free-form image in less than 60 seconds, and makes it easy to share on social media with friends or 3D print

Predictive Capture (smile) – Never miss an unexpected again, as Predictive Capture automatically starts buffering images when it detects a smile (even before you press the shutter button), allowing you to pick the best from a selection of up to four shots

Autofocus burst – Recognises, tracks and captures sequences of moving objects in sharp focus for blur-free action shots

Improved sound quality – Tuning improvements to the front-facing stereo speakers, and Qualcomm® aptX™ HD audio**** support for high-quality sounds when using wireless headphones

App Shortcuts – Re-imagined app shortcuts, which allow easy access to actions menus by long pressing the app icon

Software rollouts are a phased process, so please check in with your local operator and watch for the notification – be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for all the latest as it happens.

Nothing on my phone yet, but I'm in no rush as I'll be needing to use my phone as a phone this week. Oh life .

Oreo update downloading on my EE XZ Prem just now...

I am in 2 minds to upgrade though as, whenever I upgraded my Z5, I always lost the WiFi Calling ability until I did a full factory restart and even then it was flakey...

Well I went ahead and updated it at this very moment... WiFi Calling seems to have popped back on with no issues but time will tell... I'll see what Oreo is like during my working day and report any issues :)

Finished updating, and got rid of the 3rd party Pixel theme I had since Sony now uses the Pixel navigation icons. So far one major thing bugging me is how the activity arrows on the wifi/4g icons pushes the rest of the icons to the left when they appear. Network name was also on the top left but you can turn that off in the display settings.

And... Sony now uses Oreo's new emojis, RIP blobs :(.

EDIT: Don't forget to enable camera distortion correction in the camera settings ;).

Hijacking this thread for the XZ1 phones as well, as it's pretty much the same as the xz premium.

I've had my XZ1 for about a month now, which was an upgrade from the Xperia Z2.

So far quite enjoying it, not a massive difference over the Z2 really, obviously upgraded hardware all around.

I suppose most of the "newness" has come from Android 8, which has a host of new features i've taken advantage of, although a couple of things Sony have done with Oreo that i'm not much of a fan of.

Anyone else got a XZ1/compact that they're enjoying/not enjoying?

I picked up a compact the other day on contact as I have wimpy sized hands and prefer small handsets. For comparison I had an HTC M8 which has a 5" screen with a generous amount of bezel which was slightly too big. Before that I had an HTC One S which was 4.3" with reduced bezel size, which was perfect. The compact is slightly too big but much easier to use than the M8.

I am having a few issues with mine - the alarm sometimes doesn't sound, it will vibrate only, and I get "call on hold" noises whilst on a single call and I am certainly not popular enough to have more than one person call me! This is apparently related to Oreo rather than the handset itself, but nonetheless, I hope these issues are fixed quickly as they spoil the otherwise nice phone!

Try a different alarm app, I'm using Google's clock one since with the stock one, when I wake up earlier than the alarm and dismiss the upcoming alarm, it also dismissed it for the next day. Might be worth going into Settings -> Sound and checking the alarm volume is on max, and within both the settings the alarm app itself, reselect the alarm tone.

Have you got any of the Xperia actions running as well? Although i've not tested mine properly, i do set mine to go on silent from 10pm weekdays, and the missus has a moan a couple of weeks back when it beeped from an email. Was obviously expecting it to have been muted.

Don't have any of the Xperia actions running, while they're nice I don't think they're as powerful as tasker/IFTTT.

So I noticed the location icon is being persistent even when not in use, and only goes away if I restart the phone. Looks like it is a confirmed bug however introduced from the Jan security patch update: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...1-A-12-34-bug-gps-icon-always-on/td-p/1295480

I've also started getting this issue for some reason. Only BT device I have connected is my Android Wear watch. Was completely fine before the new year.

Wish I searched the Sony forums before hand though, I did a software repair in hopes of fixing these issues which it didn't :p. And also a wifi issue but I have a feeling it may be my router causing it...

To be honest, I think this phone ran a lot better with Nougat compared to Oreo.

Also, what the fudge this?

Dual-camera system with 19MP colour + 12MP monochrome,
AUBE fusion image signal processor,

960fps slow-mo video at 1080p,
13MP front camera,
Battery 3540 mAh,
Android 8.0 Oreo,
Price Very high.

Seems to be a lot of improvements and glad the dual cameras is focused on low light improvements, which is one major thing I missed from my old Nexus. Will need to wait for reviews to see how well it performs though.

That price though... Seems Sony is joining in with everyone else on premium prices.

EDIT: No plans to sell in the UK sadly: https://www.techradar.com/news/sony-no-plans-to-range-xperia-xz2-premium-in-the-uk-and-ireland

"Given the strength of the existing Xperia XZ range, specifically the XZ2, XZ2 Compact, and XZ Premium, there are currently no plans for widespread ranging of the handset [XZ2 Premium] in the UK and Ireland.

This decision will be reviewed nearer to retail launch in summer 2018."
