Hi,

I have just bought a new Samsung TV, am I able to screen mirror my Sony Z3 straight to this without Chromecast?

Any advice appreciated.

Michael

Assuming your new TV supports Miracast, Settings > xperia connectivity > Miracast. YMMV as to the quality of this, I have a few TVs and handsets but universally for some reason I can't make it anywhere near as smooth as a chromecast - I so wish I could. This is involving eth/802n minimum networks. Many people get it working fine for the record.

You might be able to use DLNA too which isn't casting but more file sending / playback. This will always have 100% quality as it's not realtime.

So chromecast may not be a bad idea then? Thing is that I have apple tv too (wife has iPhone, we have ipad). Don't really want so many connections that we have to keep changing sources for.

If the Samsung TV supports Miracast then I would try that first.

Also, not all devices supports screen mirroring on Chromecast, but I believe the Z3 is a supported device.

A lot of DLNA servers transcode the stream before sending so not usually 100% quality, especially if sending a high bandwidth video.

Mine always plays for a second or 2, then has a massive pause for about 3 seconds and then plays fine. not the end of the world but makes playing short videos pretty pointless
