And ripping a bluray doesn't allow the same thing? If anything you could stream the ripped copy to multiple devices simultaneously.
Speaking of uhd blu ray... It was fairly easy to get them for OK prices not long ago, but lately all seem around £25.
The only service offering true blue ray quality (or better in the case of their 4k options) is Kalediscape www.kaleidescape.com
Titles cost about £16 for the digital HD versions which i think is reasonable but unfortunately you have to use their hardware which is eyewateringly expensive.
Which is why the vast majority of people that care about quality are either ripping their blu rays or just sticking with discs.
Thats actually not the case, you can use it personally (might be more recent than your article in 2014)on any format you choose as long as its for personal use
You also have to think about actual practicalities....ie as long as you are only doing it for personal use , how is anyone who cares otherwise ever going to find out? Its impossible for anyone to find out unless you start trying to make money out of it / playing it publicly etc etc
