Soon to be taking lessons again. Some advice needed.

Out of curiosity, what car did you have trouble changing gear in? Dad has some issues with his arm and shoulder which made him want to get rid of his Mondeo for an automatic, but when he test drove a manual A6 he found that the gearchange was so much shorter and smoother that it didn't bother him much at all. He still has the car 7 years later. :)

I'm absolutely not questioning the issues with your arm  just wondering if a stiff gear change might have made it harder.

Also, is there absolutely no way you could learn in a manual (perhaps that belongs to someone else) and then buy an automatic for yourself? I'm just thinking that there might be situations in the future which require you to borrow someone elses car, and most cars in the UK are manuals, so it could present a legality issue.

Acme. I have thought about those points you raised but I am afraid it just will not work. I drove, abeit for a short distance, BMW 3 series, Audi A3, Astra and a Ka. I just couldn't change properly.

Regarding your point about borrowing someone else car in emergencies etc, I totally understand that if it came to it. However it's something I will have to deal with there and then.

Thanks for your reply anyway. :)
