Just to "educate" you, paradigm has also owned cars with both those engines :)

Quite!

your going to tell me you have owned both next ?

and then i will reply and say no you haven't.

Yes, I have (and still do). Do you want proof?

Let's for the moment forget that I was referring to the 1.8T being far better suited to the MKIV Golf GTI than the godawful 2.0 naturally aspirated piece of junk, and state that actually, I DO own a 1.8T and a 2.0T, currently! (Yes, people of motors, I STILL have my LCR!) One is pushing 265BHP (1.8T), and one around 230BHP (2.0TFSI).

The 1.8T is not a pup in the slightest, offering only marginally worse fuel consumption, a slightly less smooth torque curve (which is not something you particularly want from a "GTI"), and is a lot less complex (and less likely to go boom).

So no, get your facts straight.

Can I ask another question :) Should I be put off from the 100k mark? I have seen mondeo's that look very well looked after but with like ~130k on the clock etc.. should I be put off from this?

Is there any key work I should look out for that has been on a car that has done over 100k. In case you hadn't realise I don't know a huge amount about cars :(

This is currently my favourite I have seen so far http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/ford-mondeo-2004-20/101766622

100k+ on a Mondeo shouldn't be a problem, the usual things that come up are rear subframe bushes and rear wheel bearings - apart from that, all the usual things that would come up on any other car really.
