Hello all. As you probably can guess I am new here.

Just wondering if you could help me out.

Brought me a eVGA 680i motherboard. Then a 8800GTX.

However I need to get the Ram and the Processor. I think a Celeron D is going to bottleneck me just a little bit :o :p

I saw some ram in the this week only. Would that coupled with a e6300 be any good.

I saw a Zalman 9700 for sale for £22 the other day. Thought it would be better than my stock cooler as it is bigger. Still not fitted. Was this to much to pay? Is it rubbish? Probably is knowing my luck.

So what would you guys recommend. I also have a XFI-XtremeMusic which someone gave me.

Cheers

The Zalmans are good but for the price they are @ RRP (£40ish) they aren't as good as the others, as you got it for that price it should be good if you overclock. If not you could always sell it on for around the same price and you haven't lost anything there.

As Melbourne says we need to know if you're on a budget before we spec :)

Hi. Technically I dont have a budget, but I heard about intel cutting the prices soon? Some say next week some say in july.

I was interested in the quad cores as they are the way of the future. However I cant justify the price so I must stop that notion.

my eVGA motherboard has let me down slightly. Running So Hot. I have some temp sensors with my case. put one of them on the cooling on the motherboard without a fan and it went past 100oc :( . Dropped down when I put a fan on it, but then becomes noisy. Its a shame. My pc is next to silent.

Some people have been dissing the E4300 chip. Dont know whether they should, having never used one :) but they say that you are limited....

an E6300 @ the same price or near abouts seems sensible.

Maybe im wrong :o

The Zalman is a good cooler but as mishima says probably not worth the £40+ they are normally, for £22 you got a bargain although apparantly quite loud on the fans fastest setting.

Ram-wise: Geil PC6400 C4 or OCZ PC2 6400 would be my suggestions at the slightly lower end of the scale but you can obviously spend a lot more, it just becomes a question of how worthwhile it is for your uses.

The 4300 is a good chip and has a 9x multiplier which makes overclocks less dependant on the Ram however it can sometimes need quite a few volts to reach high speeds I believe, the 6300 has a 7x multiplier and is again good but normally requires higher FSB speeds for a good overclock. :)

I think they are in April/May time the price cuts. Quad core at the moment is a waste of money. Next year it will probably be more maintstream but for now dual core is more than good enough. I would go for E6600 then :)

Are you comfortable with overclocking? Will you be doing it?

wheres the fun if you aint overclocking :D I might as well buy a dell :o

Seriously....

I not sure if I want a E6600. Is it worth the massive premium over the others?
Im not sure if im allowed to say this on the forum but I have seen the E6300 for a bit cheaper around.

The near £200 price tag dosnet impress me much.

What do you guys think.

I got me TDU limited sitting on the desk. I have a stalker on the way  :p

P.s if you could check under network and connections sub forum I could with some help there as welll cheers.

All I know for the ram is...

I want @ least 2gb. I think 1gb will hold me back a bit.

I would like it in 2x1gb for dual channel lark and for ease of use.

I would like PC6400 or higher. Though the 667 Ballistix stuff seems to get good overclocks.

There's no problems with getting things elsewhere or saying you are going to, its the linking and actually naming the competitor they don't want on the forums. Ignore what I said about the E6600 earlier, it would be a waste if you are keen on overclocking. I would go for an E6300 then.

I have some of that GeIL 6400 and its great. Overclocks well too. 2GB is the stuff to get, 1GB isn't enough anymore really with high performance gaming and applications.

I will have a look over there now :)
