Need some tyres for my Accord Type-S, currently have PS2's on the front and Yokohama AVSDb's on the back, tyre size is 225/45/17 and I think the tyres have to be XL (extra load)

Been looking at getting some PS2's all round but looking on Camskill I can get 4 VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA - 225/45R17 94Y XL TL for the around the price of 3 and a bit PS2's.

Should I take a punt at the Ultracs or stick with the PS2's?

There's still a few mm of thread left on all the tyres but yesterday on my way to Watford nearly had an off on 1 way system behind B&Qs with the back snapping out so it must be time to change tyres :)

Extra load, are you sure?
I wouldn't have thought an Accord would be heavy enough to justify extra load tyres, my old Phaeton was the only car I ever had that required those and it was 2.25 tons

As above for the XL tyres.
Not sure they're needed. Either way, the Vreds have been rated highly on here so give them a try.
PS2s are probably the most expensive tyres available.

It looks like the PS2's have been or are being replaced with PS3's, Bracknell tyres have quoted me £115 per corner for the PS3's so might just go for them but there are no reviews on the tyre so might be a risk if they turn out to be ****e.

Just thought I'd put in an update, after a lot of searching on the web Costco came back with the best prices for Michelin PS3s at 112.xx a corner but a local ATS place in Slough where I work price matched Costco so am having 4 PS3s put on for 448 all in next Tuesday. Suppose the point of this post is to say it never hurts to ring around and see what the locals can offer :)

Maybe you could adjust the nut behind the wheel too!:)

LOL, a poor workman always blames his tools :)

Anyway, I got the tyres fitted yesterday and the guy at ATS charged me even less, £434.15 for all 4 in the end. After driving from the tyre place back to work a colleague suggested that I check all the nuts to make sure that they were all done up, didn't have a torque wrench with me but he said just check and I'm glad I did. On the drivers side both locking wheel nuts weren't done up tight but the other 4 nuts per wheel were tight.

Onto the tyres, still early days and have found them to be a bit finicky at the mo as they're not scrubbed in but the noise levels are so much lower then my previous nearly worn out set.

I had a close look at the tyres and to my untrained eyes they are a much harder compound and the only other real difference is that the central tread now has cuts in it which is probably why they've got better wet handling.

Whats the problem with XL tyres? Mine are XL.

No idea, think they have stiffer sidewalls but after looking on my drivers side door jam it said the tyres should be 91Y so went for them in the end. Have always gone for XL as the car came with 4 Yokohama AVS dB XL tyres and was none the wiser to be honest.

you paid how much for 4 tyres at ats over £400 you were robbed, I can get 4 F1s cheaper than that on my ST, even 4 Falkens is just under £300

I had F1 Asyms before the PS2s that have now been replaced and they cost me around £110 a corner and lasted all of around 4500 miles. Falkens aren't the same as PS3s surely?

Who do you use for your tyres then, might be useful in the future.

4500 miles out of a set of F1's on an Accord is ridiculous, I cannot begin to imagine how you managed that. I had 15k out of the even softer GS-D3's on the back of my more powerful car and despite popular OcUK opinion I don't drive everywhere like a grandad.

£400 for 4 F1s will be an average price. Not including fitting.

My Sessantas got delivered today from Elite Direct. £86 each for 225/40/18 XL.

Camskill are currently out of stock until late next week so I used Elite Direct instead.
