Sorry need a quick answer. Can i stop win10 upgrade ?

Ok so i performed a back up in march. If i restore using that will it get rid of windows 10? I know i can roll back but i think it may just leave more problems etc.

Worst timing I saw was that a win7 test laptop we use at work had just started some testing on a customer network when it did the same - closed all programs and started an upgrade - not happy bunnies that day. I guess as this laptop wasn't part of a domain it was fair game in MS eyes

Why would anyone not want windows 10  i updated my mums 3 year old laptop and its runs really nice and with no issues :)

Depending on your usage, etc. can be one or more of many factors - lack of full control over Windows update (especially not ideal if you spend any significant amount of time on metered internet connections which don't present as wifi in Windows 10 so can't be set as metered), poorly thought out and ugly UI - aesthetics aren't insignificant if you spend a reasonable amount of time looking at the OS each day. Having to mess about configuring privacy settings if that is a concern to you. Potential incompatibility with some older software.

Personally I do quite a bit of stuff where it is very very not ideal if the OS can automatically restart itself to apply updates and while you can do some rather nasty hacks to work around that or disable the service entirely there are generally less than ideal side effects to those approaches as well.

While there are potentially many great ideas in the OS - it only really works well if you fall within a narrow range of mainstream usage habits - the OS appears to be very very lacking in terms of project leadership that can also see the broader picture.

oh wow... I dunno how any can continue to defend MS at this point.

They really need to start getting some people with better broad perspective in the project leadership positions.

Probably explains the sudden increase in people claiming Windows 10 installed itself and they didn't click on anything to agree to it.

I am surprised that some on here have not defended this yet. There is hope for them yet. :p

But it is annoying. I can foresee some of my family/friends running into a similar issue, but I am not going around every single computer trying to stop something that is being pushed by Microsoft. I actually hope someone sues them.

That's what was a shock today. Not once have I accepted anything to say I wanted win10. I got pop ups about it but always just closed the window.

You were probably nobbled by the fact that Microsoft changed the close button behaviour to dismiss the window and accept the upgrade...

Wtf, just noticed last night that the GWX malware has been re-deployed in Windows Updates, even though I've hidden the update as well as blocking it via group policy as per Microsoft's OWN INSTRUCTIONS!!!

Thank **** I went and checked each update before hitting install. Well played M$, well played  absolute scumbaggery.

I never thought the day would come when I'd have to trawl through every available Windows update to make sure there's no viruses/malware pending for install. Sad times :(
