Bought a ASUS DGX soundcard from OCUK at the end of December but was waiting till I got my hands on a new set of headphones before I would use it.

So upon getting home with my new headphones today, I install the sound card in the only available PCI-E slot I have free. All seems well until it tries to load Windows. It POSTs ok but then just gets stuck in a loop until I power the computer off. If I take the sound card out, the computer boots fine.

Any ideas? Already tried a CMOS reset and sound card was seated correctly.

I haven't. Not quite sure how I forgot to try that myself but I'll give that a go later on and report back.

Disabling onboard sound didn't make any difference. Windows will not boot with this sound card.

Umm, you cant try it in another slot?

Some Asus cards require a floppy style power connector in the rear of them, is this one of those?

Tried it in another PCI-E slot, still won't boot into Windows. Couldn't see where a power connector would plug in and needing one isn't mentioned in the manual.

Interestingly if I disable onboard sound, the computer then refuses to even do a POST. I have to leave it 10 mins before it will boot with onboard disabled. As soon as I plug the sound card back in the loop thing happens again.

What board do you have? I did a build with a Z77X-D3H and after fitting a Xonar DGX it wouldn't even post, let-alone boot into windows.

I fixed it by updating the motherboards BIOS.

No worries stulid, thanks for the help anyway.

It is a gigabyte P67A-UD4 (probably should have mentioned that in the opening post). I'll try a BIOS update.

I had this problem on my G1 Sniper board, it wouldn't post with soundcard fitted, no matter which slot.

Same card, Asus DGX, still sat here in box.

Thing is i have had one before and it worked fine then, but on another board......

Hmmmm so it seems to be a problem relating to gigabyte boards. You just leaving it for now Rich or are you trying a different sound card?

Just tried to do a BIOS update but the flashing software wouldn't pick up the usb stick.

Is it formatted at FAT32? I believe it has to be formatted as FAT32.

I might get around to trying it in another system first, then go from there.

My other DGX was in a Asus mobo and worked fine then.

I don't have my PCI-e power connected to the mobo at the minute, i wonder if that's the problem? I may try it later, doing a full case swap at the minute.

It is currently FAT. I'll format it for FAT32 and give that a go.

I didn't realise PCI-E slots needed their own power source. Could be why it's not working for me either. I've sent a support email off to Gigabyte as well.

The DGX should be absolutely fine without additional PCI-E power.

That's what I thought. Anyway done a BIOS update which hasn't fixed issue. Looks like I'm either going to need to try a different card, or get a portable amp instead. The headphones I bought need an amp as they are 250 Ohm. Got all motherboard drivers installed so I'm a bit stuck at the moment.

Hi, fitted a Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-E Sound Card no problems at all with my X58A UD5 mobo.

Wondering if it's worthwhile selling the DGX on the MM and getting the DG instead.

Perhaps. Have you tried the BIOS update?

*edit* I see that you have.

Just make sure that the card works in another machine first before selling it on the MM.
