Just nearing the end of choosing my bits for my PC and Sound card I'm not too sure about. I don't want to spend too much as I've got my Mojo but something that has good surround sound, good rear + front cues, very clean, the Mixamp I have is great but it's slightly on the warmer side.

What do you guys recommend, note this is purely for gaming and will be replacing my Mixamp 2011. I'll be prob keeping the K702 as more efficient than the K612 and I want to avoid adding an amp if possible.

The PowerColor HDX is worth a shot, very good sound quality, powerful amp and a good interface - the sample I had died, so build quality may be an issue or it could just have been a lemon, worth a punt at the price in any case.

I love the stx, if it's just for headphone use I'd go second hand stx or stx2, you know if you go cheaper you'll always wonder what if haha

I love my Soundblaster Z. Good price and does a good job. Saying that, I've never had any other sound card (SBZ is my first), so can't really comment much except that I think it's good & it does get good ratings!

Are the Stx's Dolby Headphone? I like Dolby headphone for it's cues, I've heard some of the SB's before and found them a bit more spacious, clean but Dolby Headphone was a bit more accurate but I'm really not knowledgeable when it comes to PC stuff.

If there's something that has the spaciousness of the SB's with the cues of Dolby Headphone then I'm sold. I'm not too fused about how it performs for music as I can just plug my Chord Mojo in if I want a top music DAC.

I'm hoping this would replace my Mixamp which also uses Dolby Headphone and while accurate, didn't provide the sense of space, airy sound of some of the SB's I tried.

I can't get used to Dolby headphone, it feels so out of the headphones that it's like using speakers, keep thinking I'll wake the baby up

Agreed , The sound quality is top notch ...although I also had issues with this card , it wouldn't load after restarting the PC I had to do cold boots

Essence STX 2. Really love mine. Excellent sound card and yes it has Dolby 7.1. Couldn't go without it for music and gaming now.

I love the out of head sound of Dolby Headphone. I was playing The Last Of Us(Love that game) the audio is so good in that game as if your headphones are resolving enough there's a lot of hidden cues in my game that I could only find with the LCD-2 and HD650 and K701 + with Dolby Headphone(Mixamp) It sounded so open, depth and width is great.

Switching to stereo kills the experience for me.

I do like it, it just gives me the impression I'm filling the house with sound and I only get to go on late at night. The illusion is so good I've had to pull the headphones off quite a few times to check it's still on the headphones
