Sound completely gone, help please.

this happened to my dads comp

i told him to get the below until he replaced / got a decentsound card.

1 year on hes still using it....

do those things work ok then?
had a look at a few similar but was kind of put off by their cheapness

My dads been using his for over a year. he switches between speakers and headset.

no problems at all.

My motherboard has been tested and the fault confirmed, just have to wait on a new one now. From my experience and looking around on the web trying to find solutions it seems like Realtek HD audio chips have a pretty high failure rate

They don't. It's just that almost every motherboard uses Realtek onboard hence it looks that way.

Annoying as heck when something like this happens though. Fist mobo I have seen where the onboard audio has failed. Oh well, live and learn

Guess I was just unlucky then
