As title says I'm listening to music or watching video streaming and when I want to use my second monitor I plug the vga cable in, since I take it out to save power (gpu runs hot having 2 plugged in) and when the second display comes on the sound drops by about 80% and I have to turn the volume to max to hear any sound from video streams.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers

The idle wattage is only up 20-30watts having more than one screen attached(7970). Nothing i can see that would break the bank, the idle temps are probably in the 50-60s at a guess though?

For your sound problem, just keep the second screen in and adjust your volume accordingly...dunno why it drops the sound.

You could also keep the VGA cable plugged in and use the "WINDOWS KEY" and "P" combination to switch the secondary display on and off as needed.
Just flip between "Computer Only" and "Extend".
Hold "WIN" and press "P" 3 times to fire up secondary display, hold "WIN" and press "P" another 3 times to go back to Primary only.

Computer only = Primary display and desktop only.
Duplicate = Both displays active showing the same primary desktop.
Extend = Both displays active showing their own desktop.
Projector only = Secondary display only showing Primary desktop.

I've written it up far more complicated than it really is.

awesome. I've actually broken the vga pins on the card removing it so many times (temps on card stay around 60c when its left in) so always removed it, now I just have a cool hot key command :D
