Far Far Away!
On my old PC i used to be able to have FL Studio open and listen to YouTube at the same time, or FL STUDIO and Windows Media Player.

Now on my new system, once I open FL Studio, it cuts off all other applications which require sound such as YouTube or windows media player until I close FL Studio again.

Does anyone know what is causing this...
All the correct drivers are installed ect..
Pleaseeee help me!

Sounds like you are using ASIO. (cmasiopPCIX or similar) If you switch over to one of the other drivers whilst leaving media player playing in the background you will find that you'll probably get the sound from the other application back with certain drivers. You also need to click on auto close device which will allow the sound back whilst the application is minimised.

Hello & thanks for replying! I just can't get my head around it. I have opened up my PC Case and disconnected Front Audio to see if that's what the problem was, but no luck!

FL Studio is using ASIO4ALL v2 with Auto Close Device enabled.

I have had a look into the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" > "Device and Settings" and notice these options enabled;

I can't think of any other options at this point.. I have tried change the options in the Realtek Audio Manager and nothing works.
Can anyone help?

I want to be able to minimise FL Studio and listen to other programs and use YouTube etc that require other Audio. But at the moment, I can only listen to other audio once FL Studio is closed.

Thanks

Update:

After selecting primary driver as the Input/Output Device I can minimise FL Studio and Listen to YouTube with Auto Close Device Enabled.
But as soon as I select ASIO4ALL it doesn't let me listen to both. My old PC used to let me do this. I'm so confused. :

ASIO takes control of the device so you can usually have one and not the other. I'm running FL studio 8 so things might be slightly different but if i have any of the ASIO devices selected i get audio through one but not both. ASIO4all will get overridden by another application running in the background meaning i get no sound in FL studio until i stop the other program. You could try and update asio4all but the latest release is 2.10 from june 2010. (2.11 is a beta released this year)

Were you using XP with your old PC, and are you using 7 now?

Hello again,

My old PC was running Windows XP pro.
I was using version 9 on that system, and I swear I had the Asio4All selected as I think it gave better quality sound & on board sound.

I am now using Windows 7 Ultimate, and the FL Studio version is FL Studio 10 Producer Edition.. again with on board sound

Any ideas, is it really that bad to have have the default sound driver selected rather than Asio. I am using 2.10 Asio.

Thanks

Could well be that something has changed in FL studio, as i've never had any trouble with getting sound from other applications with fl studio minimised. (using XP, vista and 7 with all the versions of fruityloops from 3.5 up to 8) I'm not normally using asio4all though, as i used creativeasio and now cmasiopPCIX as i've always had a separate sound card. Using asio4all doesn't seem to make any difference to the way it works for me though. As soon as i minimise fl studio it releases the device.

I'm wondering if the problem is Windows 7 itself, or more to the point, the way Microsoft changed the way the sound works in Vista/7.

This is what it's at, at the moment.

I changed the Input/Output device to:

Speakers(Realtek High Definition Audio) which is the default sound card I believe.

With Auto Close Device ENABLED.

Now, when I minimise FL Studio and Click play on YouTube, the sound works, I can then Re-Open FL Studio and Both sounds together.

If I have Asio4All Selected. FL STUDIO seems to take priority and stops all other audio from working.

Obviously this has been mentioned, but I really am miffed. Maybe a dedicated sound card would solve the problem?
