Ok so I recently built a new pc for gaming videos and what not.

Crosshair V Formula
AMD X6 1100t / Corsair A50 Cooler
XFIRE 6870 GFX
Corsair 850HX PSU
Case - Corsair 650D

Now to my issue, I have a pretty old creative X-FI Xtreme audio PCI sound card which is currently being used but in some cases gives pretty poor audio and have noticed static etc so have decided it's time for an upgrade.

However my problem is this, as i'm running crossfire there are 2 x16 pci-e slots taken up so would it be an option to run a pci-e sound card or would it cut my graphics performance?

I would appreciate any help in chosing a sound card also that gives crystal clear sound and is known to have no "static" sound issues, thanks!

Hi thanks for ur reply, yer i've tried the onboard audio on this motherboard and to be honest it's not good, with intense CPU usage games the sound starts to crackle which u wouldn't expect from a motherboard of this quality.

Budget wise as i've been looking about I'd like to say nothing above £150 but there abouts would be fine.

Regards to the onboard sound crackling with intense CPU usage is it worth an RMA as i've read numerous threads about the same problem with the Crosshair V Forumla.

think if it affects onboard and your current sound card then a new card might not be that much use.

problem with rma is whether its seen as a fault or a design issue with the mobo, i know it shouldn't matter but some places can be picky :(.

as such i would think your rma would be valid and worth a try, changing the card for a new one would be a waste of money to try and resolve your problem imho.

as always rma is a huge pain in the sundontshine region but on the other hand paying over the odds for a "defect" motherboard wouldn't be right so guess i'll give it an RMA and see what they say.

thanks for the help appreciate it.
