hi all
hoping you can shed some light on this
I have just starting using a TV instead of a monitor- connected to the PC via HDMI
into an NVidia 1060 card
I also use an ASUS soundcard
the issue is some videos and music only play through the TV via the HDMI and some videos/music
only play through the PC speakers (plugged into the soundcard)
also I think it varies dependent on what player I use e.g. media player, iTunes or groove music
any thoughts ?

Had similar "issues" when connecting the PC to a HT and using it instead the speakers. After the need to change source all the time, using a toslink cable and setting the audio only to the optical exit kind of sorted it. But after a while, decided to use only the speakers.

I just disable the HDMI audio so it always uses my card.
Disabling unnecessary audio output/playback devices in Windows sound controls is always good practise.
You just can't trust Microsoft to not mess things, even if you've set default playback device.

also I think it varies dependent on what player I use e.g. media player, iTunes or groove music
Some software always uses what ever is chosen as default output/playback device in Windows sound settings.
Others can have some own setting for that, which might have gotten set wrong for reason or another. (or for wrong horoscope/position of planets/alignment of some stars etc....)

So make sure default playback device of Windows is correct and disable not needed ones.
If there are still problems after that, check if those particular programs have some own sound settings.

thanks all- was kinda thinking in these directions but definitely wanted some opinions before I start chucking money at something else ;)
