Hey,

Just noticed the speaker deal here and thought it's about time to upgrade my sound.
I've currently got free old dell speakers that produce sound, and to someone as unaccustomed with the differences, work fine. But all in all are probably terrible.

With these speakers i'm using onboard sound, so thought of treating myself, not sure what to get though and how much i need to set them up once installed (in the way you tweak with monitor colours upon getting it?)

Was thinking of this:

to go along with the aforementioned Edifier speakers.

So basically if this is a perfectly adequate combo all i need is the nod :D else maybe help a newb in need?

do you use headphones too? if so id be tempted to go with the dgx, also the d1 is pci only meaning your current or future motherboards might not support it

Speakers are a fantastic buy for £50. Xonar D1 is a great choice. Wouldn't a DX be a better choice though? Same sound card, just PCIe. If you want dual graphics card at some point, the PCI will not be accessible. Also PCI may disappear soon. DX does require a floppy power connector though.

Thanks both, am at work with multiple tabs, didn't even realise i was looking at a PCI card rather than PCIe (Don't worry i wasn't about to hit order :D).

By DX do you mean: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-002-AS&groupid=701&catid=11 ?

I don't use headphones (well i do but they're just for skype - terrible and normally plugged into front bus), however maybe 7.1 is future proofing it more than i need to, i doubt i'd even upgrade from 2.0 so maybe http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-015-AS&groupid=701&catid=11 this as suggested?

Ive got a dgx and for the money they really are awesome yes while the dx is in theory better are you the kind on person that would notice?

The DG/DGX is a very good budget card, and really is ideal for someone not wanting to spend maybe £50 on card; however, the D1/DX is definitely a better sounding card. Personally I feel the D1/DX is worth the extra.
