My brother has just picked up his pc from the shop and it appears the sound isn't working for him.

He took it to the shop due to it not starting up at all. The shop replaced the graphics card, naming it the only problem, and he picked it up. Now he's got it back and whilst it starts up normally and everything seems to function properly except the sound, which just doesn't want to work at all. Ideas?

they prob knocked one of the connections, open it up and make sure theyre arent any loose wires, if youre not comfortable doing this then take it back to them and explain that this is what you think theyve done

They might not of installed the sound drivers, check the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers.

What graphics card did they put in ... a possible explanation is that they've changed the card to an ATI one which is able to handle the audio as part of its HD support and by default, I think, the driver install will assume that you're going to be using that card for audio.

Check on the sound properties control panel to see what audio device windows thinks that it is using ... this happened to me when I moved to a radeon 3850 last year and had me confused for a few minutes when I realised the sound had disappeared!

Cheers for the quick responses guys. He has changed to an ATI card so that could be it, will have a play around with that, as well as installing drivers etc. Not really a computer-y guy so failing these two will just take it back in I think. Thx ;)
