As you can see I noticed that it does get detected.

I've tried alsamixer and it is not muted.

I added that line myself at the very bottom and restarted.

I was then able to hear ubuntu sounds also sounds on firefox
but applications still do not work such as playing music or video sound

I notice on sound properties I see my hardware
it comes up as internal audio and I selected IEC958 - that used to work before now it doesn't

what can I do to get the sound working? someone help please

ahhh got it working

so far so good

just one line at the bottom
I changed it to

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig

arghh sorry to come back but now I've rebooted it don't seem to work

I can hear the ubuntu sounds and I can hear sound on firefox
but bansee and exhaile media players won't work

I've noticed that I can't see either of these players in the sound preferences.
I've got another media player to work but these 2 don't

any ideas?
