Hello All,

Just baught myself a Samsung 50" Q97, and built an media center using the ABIT Fatal1ty F-I90HD motherboard and its onboard HDMI output.

The question is, how do I get sound to go through to the telelvision. I've tinkered with the settings in Vista and nothing obvious is showing up. Is it something to do with the TV settings or....?

Ive installed the latest "Realtek HDMI output" available for vista, and set it to default. Also changed the setting in bios which enables sound to go through the HDMI

This is really frustrating me and can't find the solution anywhere :(

Install the HDMI sound driver that comes on the disk and also make sure you set the HDMI mode to normal (non DVI) in the bios.

By default it is set to DVI and does not transmit sound.

Hello,

Yes that is what I downloaded from ATI's website, and the bios is set to normal and still no joy :(

Really loosing options here and can't think what the hell is going on :(

Does your TV support sound of HDMI? Not all HDMI devices support it - i know sounds pointless but sadly its true!

A lot of cheap all in one cinema setups dont support sound over HDMI

Hopefully my TV would support it, being a fairly recent model. Oh well, going to have to look at alterative means of sound at the moment. Didnt want to spend money on a surround system just yet, though may just have to go with a cheap one instead :(

just to add .

go into control panel > sound and audio devices >voice

And then select the hdmi option for sound (ie default sound output)

On my board Fatal1ty F-I90HD , there is 3 options (optical/hdmi and normal output sound)

I flick between optical and hmdi (optical in the living room to the amp, hdmi for the kitchen tv )

Well, managed to fix the issue. I was plugged into HDMI port 2 which for some reason doesn't allow sound. WHen I plugged into HDMI 1, I got sound, though the Media Center then refused to pick up the native resolution of the TV :(

So I'm now stuck with a blurry screen. What resolution should it be set at to work?

What TV is it? I know Samsung will send out a cable and new firmware (if there is one) to allow 1:1 pixel mapping (or "Just scan"). My mate did this only last week to his Samsung F71 series set, and i tested it with my HTPC - which is the same mobo as yours.

Whatever your set, it's worth checking out if there's a firmware to allow 1:1 though HDMI.

As for resolution, 1360x768 is the usual res, or 1920x1080 if you have a 1080p set.
