Recently I bought some new hardware and got it installed fine. I was using the onboard sound at first but then it started pausing every now again for a split second when i had sound playing. So I turned off the onboard sound and installed my old sound card (audigy 2) and it was working fine for a few hours. But now its started doing it again but this time it has started squeeking as well i cant understand whats wrong with it :-/. I have all the latest drivers installed.

My system

amd 3700+ socket 939
sapphire pure advantage mobo
sapphire x1800xt gfx card
1 gig of corsair ram
creative audigy 2
linksys wireless card
Tagan 580W modular psu

Thanks in advance.

Not your speakers is it?

Alternatively it could be something wrong with Windows, rather than just the sound drivers.

what was the new hardware you introduced to your system? You mentioned the old soundcard, but there were problems before that.

As sirius said could be the speakers themselves, check the cables are seated fully too, failing that windows could well be creating a conflict somewhere :)

EDIT: soz i was posting while you were lol, so not the speakers then

My new hardware consists of
gfx card
motherboard
psu
cpu

there were no problems with squeeking before the upgrade.
Ive noticed sometimes the whole system pauses for a split second sometimes when it squeekes/beeps. windows says there are no conflicts in device manager.

Do you have any of your old hardware still knocking about? It might be worth swapping your old components back in one bit at a time and testing to see if the sound goes away.

If it does then you may have found your culprit. Though I don't know what could cause odd sound issues other than a dodgy soundcard - which has been ruled out or software related issue.

Unfortunatley none of my old hardware is compatible
agp gfx card
socket a barton
not even my psu is atx 2 complaint.

im going to try turning the onboard sound back on to see what happens.

Hmmm strange very strange....

While i was about take out the card and turn onboard sound back on I remembered a few years ago I had a problem with a conflict with some hardware. Which I solved by swapping the card to a different pci slot...

So I have done that with my soundcard now and it seems fine... for the time being... wireless card is now where the soundcard was so if my wireless starts acting up then I know its my motherboard slot.

Hope it doesnt start acting up again :(
Im going to leave some music playing a few hours see what happens.

Gah Its still doing it! :( Could it be the wireless card causing the problem? some sort of electromagnetic interference? the two cards are in slots right next to each other. They are the only two pci I have as well :(
