apparently not. although I have tried with a 7.1 creative soundblaster and it was still a problem - maybe I have to go into BIOS and completely disable the onboard sound?
it's weird because I have been using this exact set up with punkbuster for well over a year now and it's only just become a problem. maybe some windows update is conflicting with them?
although the problems other people have been receiving were mainly a hard sound crash with a looping "brrrrrr". i've never had that, just the audio cuts out.
I think it's highly likely that Windows update has done something to upset Punkbuster, possibly on the security side. Has Windows firewall started blocking PunkBuster all of a sudden? Check that the PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB are both ticked in the Windows Firewall allowed Apps list.
